Is the shifter really an issue for folks? I find that the shifting is already pretty short and solid feeling, never found a problem with it

Caveat = Prior cars:
S14 w/ C's short shifter (that was fun!)
IS300 which is a piece of crap

While Scope22 is far from the first to suggest coming up with an RJM STS I've driven many, many customers cars over the years both 350Z/370Z and thought the factory shifters felt pretty good compared to other manual vehicles I've driven. So I've never really given them much thought. On the flip side I've heard of many customers who've installed one brand or the other of short throw shifter who ended up removing them again as a very short stiff shifter gets old quick for 95% of normal driving, especially for those who daily them. So I can see both points of view on the subject and at the end of the day to each their own. Honestly the best system out there in my opinion is made for the Ford/GM crowd that gives an adjustable throw ratio much like my AFP system where by threading the components at the base one way or the other you can taylor thd feel as you wish but I'm sure its patents prevent the idea from being used in other applications if someone doesn't already make a shifter setup like that for these cars.

I found the stock shifter to be okay not difficult at all for daily use especially with a heavy shift knod. I ran a TWM short shifter with a 7" knob and it was a lot better imho. I just purchased a Coolerworx sts and my initial impression...amazing, real short and tight tight trows.

About a year ago another forum member, who shall remain nameless, posted an RJM clutch pedal for sale. In the ad he stated it was a version 3, was new and was never installed. The price was great, so I bought it. When I got it I was seriously pissed off. Clearly it was heavily used and wasn't the one pictured in the ad. I tried to contact him, but he never responded. I filed a PayPal complaint and got my money back, but couldn't return it because the moron didn't include his return address and never responded to my messages. So, free used clutch pedal for me!

Now the questions are, what version is it and do I have everything necessary for the install?

I've attached a number of pics. Any and all help answering these two questions will be most appreciated.

Good evening Rob,
That unit is a Rev2.2 model and does appear to be a complete kit with everything needed for install. The Rev2 install guide is available at the RJM webstore under the Customer Care/Downloads area. So while not the latest or easiest to install you didn't do too bad for a free unit. Shame the seller wasn't honest about that as I've been contacted by many guys over the years who bought units that were misrepresented in one regard or another. Always disappointing to see within the community.

Best Regards,
Ryan@RJM

Ryan,

Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it! I needed the Rev # because I want to purchase the master cylinder and didn't realize it was clutch pedal rev specific. Since it is a 2.2, I assume I just select "Older *RJM Rev1 or Rev2 Series Clutch Pedal Units".

The selling member was new and was kind of shady from the beginning. I should have followed my gut and backed out, but in the end it worked out to my advantage. After that sale I never saw him again on the forum.

Rob, you're very welcome and yes that is correct on the CMC odering. The main change is the Rev1/2 units have a custom clevis that was only ever offered with OE metric threading while the Tilton uses an imperial fine thread. With Rev3 versions I can simply provide a Tilton thread HD Clevis, with Rev1/2 to accommodate the oe threaded clevis original to those kits I have to change out the Tilton standard rod for a customized metric threaded one. Hence the multiple ordering options

Ryan,

I managed to get my hands on one of RJMs original CMCs from another forum member. Its unused, but it didnt come with the steel braided lines. The individual who I purchased it from said when he got it from RJM he didnt opt for the optional steel lines. I realize you have switched to selling a Tilton CMC, but is there any way I can get my hands on those lines?

Did they happen to tell you if it was a Gen1 or a Gen2 of the original series? Unfortunately many of the original Gen1's had issues and many got upgraded to the original Gen2 units (before Tilton units started being produced) which were an upgraded design internally. From the outside they were nearly identical and can only be identified by the piston retainer in the end of the cylinder. Gen1 was a gold rear washer under the snap ring while later Gen2 units have a black/grey rear retaining washer under the snap ring.
As for not buying the upgraded line with it, that was a load of BS as the braided lines and other fittings required to install it all came with every CMC as you can't install them otherwise. I do still have some of the old lines left over in the shop somewhere, I'll have to dig one out tomorrow. You'll also need the special japanese metric flare to -3AN adapter fitting if you didn't receive that either. Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll work up a price for the line, fittings and shipping.
Best Regards,
Ryan@RJM
