It gives you a variety of heights to find the one that's most comfortable for you. Even at factory height a short shifter will improve feel because it eliminates the slop in the factory shifter.
I also believe that this transmission doesn't really benefit from a significantly shorter throw because it doesn't like really quick shifts.
