Synchrorev Match/Other Mods/Gears grinding
(New 370z owner and new to forum... also newbie to automotive/mechanical newbie if that makes sense)
Pricing and locations (websites, stores etc) on where to get these are very much needed and appreciated (Keep in mind my car is fully stock all around. Only aftermarket part is Stillen gen 3 intakes. I'm just trying to get the expensive and hard stuff done and at the same time setup my car for more power and better performance) I know most or all of this will be expensive so if you have better alternatives and or advice please share Here's the break down. I drive an 09 Nissan 370Z base model 6 speed MT Now I want to make some few additions and installations but before I do so these are the problems I'm having. Transmission feels as if it's wanting to pop back to neutral. I doesn’t fully do it but I can feel it Unusual grinding/clunking/humming noises – especially when in neutral Fluid smells like it is burned (Sometimes…. Could be something else) Clutch is dragging clutch stays engaged and causes grinding noises when I’m trying to shift (5th and 6th gear) Grinding or thumping when gear changes instead of smooth transitions Lag/delay between gear changes and/or I have to reach higher than normal RPMs to change gears from 1st to 2nd I even tried being more careful on the clutch, and driving more easier but man...this **** is annoying..I love my baby but I think about it all the time..so the reason I'm asking in this specific order is because I want to upgrade my transmission as well and if I'm going to purchase aftermarket parts, I'll take care of the ones that i'm going to have to replace anyways.. (Here we go) So I want to install a few things. First the Synchrorev Match. I know there's a lot of threads out there but because I'm a new member I didn't have full access at the time so first. I know you need New ECU, new gauge cluster, Synchros rev match button and gear position sensor. I have no idea where to get these parts! If someone can help with that. Also off your knowledge what do you THINK the cost of installation would be for this? I honestly prefer "Heel-toe" technique but living in Chicago traffic gets pretty bad and honestly I like having the option. And I don't mind paying for it. It's what I want. Also if someone could share some advice on aftermarket parts that you know helped with smoother shifting and transactions, more power like (7AT) but not really ready for all that (unless highly recommended) plus I'm rarely on the track but do get some time in. |

If I am honest, I would say sell this car and buy one with the synchro rev match as the time and money you are going to invest will probably not be worth it.
However, if you are not worried about that and want to take this on as a project, go for it! As a new owner, I have no idea where to get the parts but I'm sure there is moer than enough knowledge on these forums! p.s. why is this in the sponsored classified section? 1. Welcome
2. You definitely posted this in the incorrect section so I wouldn't be surprised if the mods move this to the correct place 3. There have been a few people that have asked this same question (DIY Idea: Installing Synchro Rev match) for example. 4. I believe your best bet would be to find a wrecked Z for these. I'm not sure I've seen any aftermarket parts so you may be limited to where you can get it from, plus it will be cheaper than trying to buy them brand new from the dealership. 5. I think cost is going to come down to how much you can/plan on doing on your own. Figure you need to drop the trans (as if you are doing a clutch change, do wiring, install the new ECU and the new gauge cluster. I'd venture to say easily 2 - 4k (depending on where you source the parts and how much you do on your own). Don't quote me on this as I am not a mechanic and don't work in a shop.

As for your gear grinding issue it sounds like you have a clutch related problem. If you bought your car from a dealership, I would take it to them and have them fix it under warranty then double check your transmission as well if this has been happening for an extended period of time.
