Cool Stillen header/pulley & z1 test pipes

What's up guys!
I'm going to be installing the stillen headers and pulley, along with z1 test pipes tomorrow morning. I will be posting pictures as well as information to hopefully help anyone in need.

For starters, yes im going to drop the motor for the headers, this will also make the pulley easier. I have heard from a lot of sources that the headers on Z's are hard to get to and that if you intend on having a clean, easy install then drop the motor.

I attached a couple of pictures of the headers, I don't think this will be a issue but if you notice the tube lengths of the headers one seems to appear shorter than the other. ( half a centimeter at max) if anyone can chime in and let me know if that would affect anything please do. The other header every single tube is perfectly even.
Will start on install tomorrow !

Ugh hoping I don't have to drop the motor while doing this install... I'll be doing my own momentum header + motordyne ART pipe install soon as well. Looking forward to seeing pics and the extra help. Best of luck!

In for pics, thinking of getting headers in the future.

If you take off the bumper/radiator/shroud, you can get to the headers from the front and its a lot easier and with a ton more room to get a wrench in there. You'll have to re-charge the AC system afterwards since you'll have to disconnect the lines.

Okay so we've made a lot of progress, passenger side header is on. I do have a question about a steering coupler, anyone know how to get it off ?

Good luck! I'm tackling this next weekend. Definitely let me know which route you go and what had to be taken off (front bumper vs just working underneath the car). Thankfully I'll have the help of my friend's lift.

Lol, that sure is a lot of work just to install headers. For everyone else,.. if you remove the fascia/crash bar/radiator/shroud.. it makes life SOOOO much easier when doing the headers. You can get your wrench in there no problem, and pull the headers out from the front instead of trying to take the steering linkage off. Only bad thing is you have to recharge your A/C and obviously drain your coolant.

Got passenger side header all installed and ready to go. Drivers side is really hard due to all the wires/pipes in the way. Will start back in the morning

A local shop here charges like 800 to install headers on a Z since it's a PITA. They basically told me don't get headers

So anyways here's a little guid of how to install these headers without dropping the motor or taking of the radiator off. I'm just going to go over the stuff that gave me the most trouble.

It's pretty simple just hard to get to most of the bolts, it's a try and error kinda thing and you really gotta go under and above the car to get all of the bolts.

^^ this is a picture of the steering coupler, this one confused me for a bit but it just takes a little effort to take it off. You unbolt the bottoms bolt and just beat it upwards till it comes off.

getting the headers off was a struggle, we had to use 14mm sockets/ wrenches depending on which nut your going for. The heat shield was a 6mm socket and that was hard too. Like I said it's not a hard job, basic bolt ons just very hard to get to. Also when taking off the nuts from the header the bolts may come with it. DONT WORRY. Make sure you apply anti seize when reinstalling new headers. When taking out drivers side header take off some of the a/c lines you will need more room.

The header 02 sensors are most likely head welded on the header, I tore the threads taking one out and had to buy a new one.

Heat welded* and the steering coupler that I took a pic of above, DO NOT let it turn at all. If it turns 360 degrees your VDC/ traction control system will not work.

WELL, it's my turn! Today i took off the fast intentions high flow cats, some of the heat shields and the passenger side header. It was tight working in there, but really not all that bad to be honest. I used WD-40 last night on the bolts i could reach, then PB blaster this morning and more PB blaster a couple hours before I started working on it. All the bolts came off no problem. I have to take the O2 sensors off the cats/header still, and tomorrow will be dedicated to getting the driver's side off along with installing everything back again. I have momentum headers + Motordyne ART pipes going in. Can't wait!
