Brake cleaner is a good solvent and not very expensive. Dries without leaving a residue also. Try it some time.

Where would you spray it? Just around the oil pan surface?

a tad better is RC car motor spray/nitro cleaner. they literally leave no smell or residue behind where as brake cleaner leaves behind stench..

but i too use brake cleaner to wipe up my drain pan.
