stuck brake line fittings.. suggestions?
 

Hello, I am trying to install Z1 SS brake lines but have hit a snag.
The lines that attach to the block will not loosen on either side in the rear.
Have not tried the front yet. When I say block, on the Z1 lines it would be the brass block. Any suggestions???

Did you buy these new from Z1?

The lines should not have been pre-tightened if you bought them new. If used, then maybe the previous owner did something wacky like put loctite or tape on the threads (which you are not supposed to do).

Does it look cross threaded? Post a picture as that will help us help you.

Are you using a flare nut wrench? Hold the brass block with pliers and just torque that sob!...lefty loose

Good luck OP and I hope nothing is damaged. Brake lines are a safety component so don't take any chances if you think they are suspect after reinstall.

it is stock lines that are stuck. No I only have sae flare wrenches do they sell metric??

the Z1 lines are second hand but never installed you can tell.

I will look to see if metric flare tool available. If they are still sae mine do not go that small.

You should definitely get yourself a set of metric flare nut wrenches ... otherwise you risk "rounding" the flare nut(s), which will only add to the difficulty of loosening the nut(s) as well as re-tightening them into the new block. The nuts can be torqued quite tight from the factory. It can be difficult to get enough leverage with the flare nut wrench only because of the short length. You can try inserting the free end of the flare nut wrench through the open end of a large box end wrench (17-21 mm) and manoeuvring the box end wrench to give you the added length and leverage needed ... or if you have a short length of pipe that you can place over the free end of the flare nut wrench to get the needed leverage you should be able to apply enough force (gently) to loosen the nuts. I just switched the stock brake lines on my Xterra over to SS lines this weekend, and I had to use a pipe and flare nut wrench "combination" to gain enough leverage to free up the nuts. Also, when re-tightening the nuts, you can simply use the flare nut wrench to achieve the needed torque. Don't over-torque the nuts; otherwise, you'll strip them and then your troubles will really begin! Trust this helps.
