DIY: STILLEN G3 Intakes

I just installed the GEN3, and now I am waiting to tuning all with UpRev remap. The product is very good. I am writing you to suggest something especially for

I just installed the GEN3, and now I am waiting to tuning all with UpRev remap.

The product is very good. I am writing you to suggest something especially for European peoples! In fact I found some problems in mounting, but nothing very hard.

1) Eurpean cars mount the pop-up Hood system.
After the plastic cover under the engine is removed, it's necessary to remove 2 of the 3 Pop Up sensors. (the three yellow sensor in the front of the car in the photo http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/9690/dscn2067a.jpg )
Do not unplug the wire, because I learnt that the unit detect the tampering and the system fails!
After the front bumper is detatched, you will remove from the top the third sensor in the centre of the bumper.
Only after these operations, the bumper is free to be removed.

2) European cars have 2 horns and the fix bracket overlap perfectly the space of the two K&N Filters!
You must disconnect the horns, switch the centrals two screws (that are short), with the two on the left and right side of the top black brace.
Then rotate the horns with its brackets and fix under the longer screws.
The old brackets that fixed the horns, will be bent outward (arrows in the photo).

3) The shortest screws on the left and right side of the black top bracket works better, because they don't touch the Gen3 pipes, but in every case I suggest to place a rubber...

4) The A/C Line must be protected by mechanical vibrations.

5) I suggest that the first thing to do is clean very well the Gen3 pipes, because they are very, very, very dirt!

After that remains to enjoy the sound and the performace!

Hi Flashgordon,
thanks for posting this up.
It seems that the European spec cars are designed like the Australian spec cars.
The horns on my 2011 are centrally mounted like yours. I imagine that by pointing the trumpet of the horn sideways, forward sound projection would be quite poor. So the horns may not have much effect on the idiot in front but any wayward lane wanderers, motor/cyclists will get a nice blast.

My car also has the 3 impact sensors. I outlined on the Australian zclub.com.au about the 3 sensors and the difficulty in detaching them due to extremely short wiring looms.
It's easier to remove the nuts/bolts (pretty sure they are just 10mm nuts from memory) and leave the loom attached. Just zip tie them somewhere so they dont fall and strike
anything.

There's also a few Aussie owners with the G3 intake but this is the first time ive heard of modifications required to the horn brackets in order to fit the intakes

You don't have to, but it's something that's done as a precaution.

When i took my front fascia off (Aussie model, has pedestrian impact sensors like the European spec models) i left the battery connected. I even disconnected these sensors and no errors were registered. If i remember right, the radio was on for the whole time.

If you're worried about losing your radio settings, gauge settings etc - write it all down before you disconnect the battery.

I removed my entire stock headunit and HVAC control boxes for two weeks. Amazingly, the clock and radio didn't need any resetting when i reinstalled it all. YMMV..

Besides resetting the settings for radio etc. Does this benefit it performance as far as it detecting the new intakes?

The ECU will be reset as a result of extended loss of battery power, however it's easier and quicker to just do a pedal dance reset if all you require is an ECU reset.

When you cut to make the holes bigger with the dremel, say you wanted to go back to stock? Would the stock intakes and everything still fit?

yes. the enlargement is done to the ducts that sits between the airbox and the front of the radiator area.

it'll enrage the new owner if u dont tell them though

Just wanna say thanks to Snakes709 for this DIY and all you others that added your advise in this thread. Just did the install today, and with all the info I got here it was super easy, even though the original pics don't exist anymore. Thanks y'all!
