3)Take off one last cover by battery near windshield
Attachment 82615

4) Take out fuse box there are two clips on top of the fuse push both and pull up
Attachment 82616
once you have gotten the fuse box out as far as you can you have to take the cover off, to take the cover off reach both hands to the bottom of the box feel for two big clips unclip them and take the cover off it will look like this on the inside…
Attachment 82617

5) The fuse is 10A on the lid of the box it will say 10A Steering wheel lock (DO NOT TAKE THE FUSE OUT YET)

6) Now go to the steering wheel with a rubber mallet or I took a screw driver and get under the steering wheel you are looking for the steering wheel lock it which looks like this
Attachment 82618

watch this video if you need help on locating it 2009 Nissan Won't Start - Steering Lock Failure - YouTube

7) Now that you have found it hit it three times not to hard with the rubber mallet or the handle part of the screwdriver and push the start button continue to do this till the car unseizes and goes in to acc mode. When you hit it you might see a small spark, that is okay don’t freak.

8)Once the car is in acc mode take out the fuse 10A (might need some pliers to take it out or tweezers) and put it all back then get in the car and start and your done!
My 2011 froze today with the steering lock. Good thing I listened to another owner and found your post. Save me at least a grand plus

But how do I get the keylight on the dash to go away?
Im in the exact same boat and this is after nissan replaced the steering wheel lock a while ago when they were doing the recalls.

Drop it in the glove box (or wherever you keep your fuses) so you have a spare 10A fuse when you need it.

So everything worked for me, but my steering wheel obviously won't lock up now. I see it as an issue when it comes to theft so how are you guys dealing with this?

I didn't lose a second of sleep over it.

Most thieves who are going to take a 370Z are going to winch it onto a flatbed or have some way to defeat all the immobilizer circuits (eg, fob emulator).

My 2011 370z is having the same exact issue. However, when banging on the mechanism with a rubber mallet, I can not for the life of me get the car into accessory mode. How many tries did it take everyone else?

Since your's is already locked, you'll either need to buy a new one ($450ish) or remove the steering lock mechanism and do the following:
DIY - Steering lock internals workaround for those whose locks have already failed.

I ended up doing the above before I saw it was possible...worked for me.

should be under recall warranty.

u can buy the lock online for 500.. or just continue banging on it until it unseizes itself.

Wow that fuse box is not in a good location for roadside servicing! Thanks for the thread, disabling mine now before it strands me.
