Thanks for the write up. I did this at 13931 miles. Just a couple of note I want to add.

#1 My transmission hadt always been notchy since it was new, I was too cheap and lazy to do this job. When it was completed yesterday, the transmission felt so much smoother. I still get the occasional notch in second, but it was nowhere close to what it was. All the other gears felt smoother. If I were to do over, I would probably change it after a few months.

#2 My car has about 12 track days, 450 autox runs and some easy street miles, the fluid were completely black after 13931 miles.

#3 I used Amsoil 75W90 GL-4. Please make sure you use GL-4 as the brass in the transmission doesn't like GL-5 fluids. My car had 3 quart coming in, 3.5 went back in.

#4 I bought my fluid pump from Harbor Freight, it was like $6.99. The pump is excellent as it is fast and doesn't leak.

#5 The drainplug and fill plug are 9mm hex if i recall correctly, maybe 8mm, but i am pretty sure it is 9mm

Differential fluid tonight

Glad it worked out for you. If you think the tranny fluid looked bad, just wait til you see the diff fluid.

you are right, the diff is disgusting, I am uppering the change interval to every other oil change. It's actually quite a bit easier than the tranny

Great write up. I definitely need to do this, my shifts into first and second are always rough compared to our 3000gt and camaro in the lower gears. +1 rep for OP

No, the auto is completely different and requires different fluid and procedures.

Hello, stupid question I guess but here it is. I put 3 quarts in but it didn't overflow. Is that enough oil for the M/T?

I have been driving it, seems fine, but I have to ask.. Thanks..

Basically, just keep pumping until it starts to overflow, then you're good.

Was your Z raised on a level surface when you were draining and filling the tranny? I've filled and drained several Z trannys and they never take more than three quarts.

I was also wondering if it's worth buying the 4th quart just in case, or have people been fine with buying 3?

I bought 4 just in case and ended up using only a little bit of the 4th.
