Just did my first transmission and diff fluid changes thanks to your write-up. It was a little tricky getting the drain plug off the diff because the tools I had were bulky, but overall super easy and saved me a bunch of money. Used MT-85 up front and royal purple in the back. Drives like new!

any tips on jacking up the car?

Stock height? I like to drive one wheel up onto a short piece of 2x12 laid flat. This gives my jack just enough clearance to reach the front garage jack point, which means I can lift the entire front end and place both jack stands on the pinch welds at the same time. For the rear, I use the underside of the differential immediately below the drain plug to lift and place my jack stands again on the pinch welds. In order to have enough clearance for my jack, I typically have to stair step the lift and do the front to an intermediate lift height first, then rear to full height, then front to full height. I always use a hockey puck on the jack stand pad - I cut a slit in one to use at the pinch welds.

On lowered cars, I usually lift each corner individually (front then rear typically). I use the subframe inside the pinch welds to place the jack stand while using the pinch weld to lift. Body kit or exhaust modifications may additionally alter the approach. For example, I have to stack two pucks on the jack stand pad to clear my Fast Intentions exhaust.

I just did my 7AT on 4/22/18.

Exactly 5 quarts drained out, looked like used motor oil.

It has been on the jack stands for two weeks without starting, so a lot of fluid drained out.

Car only has 33k miles.

Put back 5-1/4 quarts, once up to temp at 104F, about 1/4 of a quart came back out of the standoff pipe.

Not a hard DIY, plan to do this again in 10K miles.

Changed oil in my manual tranny to RedLine MT85 few weeks ago at 42k miles. Old oil looked new, driving on MT85 noticed tranny shifts smoother with less notching throughout all gears.:tup:

Just changed my 6MT using redline MT-85 bought from summit racing here in arlington,tx for about $17.85 a quart. DIY was great help.
Drained little less than 3 quarts, oil looked new. Has 70k miles, bought at 62k miles. Dont know if previous owner changed it before or not but difference in shifting is amazing.
Car was levelled by front on ramps and rear on jacks, filled all 3 quarts without overfill. Thought of putting the used oil to overfill but didnt wanna use old oil so left it at 3 quarts, i hope it has enough oil.

FSM says it's 2.83 liters (2.99 qts) so you should be fine. I buy 4 and fill it til it starts dripping out. I've used a little of the 4th bottle.

I'm not sure what the fsm had in mind with the finger in hole level test :). My pinky might fit in there, can't remember if the index fit or not. While you're under you might as well flush/bleed the clutch. It's an easy process. I do gravity feed for most of it. Finish off with a helper to refresh what's left in the small portion of the slave line that above method bypasses.

Flush/bleed clutch? I have no idea how to do that, is there a diy on that here as well?

Just performed a tranny oil change
 

Yesterday I did my first oil change and changed my diffy and tranny oil.

I used redline MT85.

Went to the dealership for the aluminum washer's. Dealerships part manager said they have never brought this part in before.

The shifts are way smoother, less clunking and noise.

More then worth the time.

There is no dipstick. You drain and pump to refill. I am trying to find the best way to pump the fluid back in. You can not drain all of it, some is stuck in the converter. I was going to add some know and drive a few hundred miles and do it again.

My 2009 does not have a dip stick. It is on the side of your transmission pan under the car.

Not sure where to fill the atf on my 2009 370z touring model. I can see a bolt on the passenger side. It looks like 9mm. It is near the front of the car on the right side and up high, is that it?
