DRL on with headlights MOD
5 Attachment(s)
New to this forum, and not sure how many times this has been shared but i thought i would share MY 30 min super simple DIY MOD to get your DRL to run all the time, even with your headlights on.
step by step, here you go: 1. locate the IPDM near the battery. you will need to remove the trim around the battery and the pass side trim cowl below the windshield. super simple, 2. slide the IPDM out and remove the cover. all the wires looks worse than what it really is. 3. the 2 wires that run the DRL are red and beige. they are next to each other. 4. unplug that connector from the IPDM and once removed, you will need to pop the cover off the back to remove the wires with the pins.(of you can simply cut the wire at the connector, but its best to remove if you have the patience). 5. once the red and beige wire are removed plug the connector back into the IPDM. 6. take the 2 wires and strip some insulation off and twist the wires together. 7. once together you will need about 6 inches of similar gauge wires to connect the 2 DRL wires to reach the open relay port in the IPDM. 8.on the end going to the relay opening, use a spade connector and connect to the 6 inch wire that will connect to the DRL wires. 9. as shown in the picture below, connect the spade end and plug into the open port of the IPDM relay port. its power on/off with the ign regardless of headlamp switch position. 10. tape wires and bundle with other wires for a neat looking set up.( not like the ones in my pix.lol) 11. reassemble. 12. DONE! should only take about 30 min or so. ENJOY! |
Thanks for the write-up. The beige wire you showed in the second pic doesn't seem to be the same wire you spliced with the red wire. Am I seeing it all wrong?
|
ah yes, that second pic is kinda misleading.
i had already removed the 2 wires that run the DRL from the IPDM. the circle of the empty ports was to show the spots where there 2 wires were after i pulled them from the IPDM. the lines do make it look like its the large beige wires, but its not that one. Kevin |
Omg love you for this! Doing it when I get home! +rep!
|
So it be on daytime w/o headlight, and on nighttime with headlight?

Did you use spade connectors in your third image? I drew green circles about what I'm referring to...also was the blue cover already over the beige wire? Thanks!

Anyone got any more info? Seems to be the easiest way |
Wonderful guide! This is something that I have wanted to do ever since picking up my '13.
|
I wanna do that +.+
|
posting a list of what items to purchase would be useful.
|
Can someone who has completed this mod post a few night shots of their car? Thanks.

Not a night shot but deal with it! |
Any more pics of the lights on together? Or some night shots?
I'd almost want to wire this up with a switch, in case I didn't want them on I could turn them on/off at my leisure. |
Id like to have just a switch that turns on or off the DRL independant of the head lights.

Yes

Just did this a few days ago. Thanks for the write up. (It was fairly easy)
Just in case anyone is wondering the DRL's come on as soon as the engine is on. Previously it was when you disengaged the E Brake. My only concern is that these may be too bright for night time use. I walked back about 50 yards and man were they bright. A lot brighter than the headlights. I wish there was a way where we could adjust the power of the DRL's (Come on at 50% power when the headlights are on) Do you guys think their too bright or am I just being paranoid? I don't want to be that driver on the road blinding everyone. |
I've been driving around rural Arkansas for since May with this mod and no one has bright lighted me yet. I think everyone has become so jaded by pnp hid kits that no one cares.

My lights went out, any idea why? I don't see a fuse for the DRL on the 2014 models.

Works Great. Just completed on my 2015 370Z Nismo. Thanks for the instructions!

Somebody knows what gauge is that cable?

FIXED :)
It was what I suspected; the blade connector backed out of the relay socket. I knew the first connector was too small; it barely stayed in the socket. Although I was hoping it would stay in. I was too lazy the first time to go buy a bigger connector but I bought one today and installed. I had to trim the bigger connector a little...lets see how long this one stays in. Everything works as before. To Kabestro: I used 18 gauge hook up wire. IIRC, the OEM wire is also 18 gauge. |

I'm having a bit of a hard time telling what is going on with the red and beige wires from the picture. They are pulled from the IPDM, combined, and then just ran to that extra relay port? the bundle of wires seems to be blocking the view. Attached a picture as I'm thinking of it. Thanks!
|
update. Yes. That is what's required. Just completed.

They stay on all the time unless you're in ACC or obviously off. In the "on" position (engine off) they are also on.
Bright as fck with the highbeams on |
Thank you. I just did this mod on my 13'. Most difficult part was removing the fuse box (IPDM, I hate acronyms). Had to use a right angle flat bar to pry the fuse box out of the metal bracket. Very difficult to remove. A picture of a spade clip would have helped me.
The socket it plugs into did not lign up with the plastic holding it. A little persuasion with a couple of screw drivers did the trick. I love the way it looks, wanted to do this since I got the car. steve |
