I usually run around 185.... After Aam install, it's up to where it is now and that's because I didnt accelerate to much, is this normal should I not worry? What temp should I worry at??? Please help guys thanks

You're probably driving faster even though you don't know it. You just want to hear the exhaust sing
A new exhaust should lower temps in theory

Check your oil levels, and is there anything else we should know? Like is today's temp especially high?

Yes a friend told me that, but even at idle, it was higher than normal... And it was about 85 degrees.. A very nice day, got about 100 miles till I change oil.. But will take car out tommarow and not slip it into manual

Start to be concerned with anything over 220 ,I've got my car to run no hotter than 215 under any circumstant.

jaytwitch 03-02-2013 07:44 PM

Yaa.. Jus figure it's way to hot for especially this kind if car.. I have a 468 big block and that thing will not hit more than 230.. And my nissan was hitting 225 makes no sense at all

I know but the VQ has a skirted block and the oil pan is VERY shallow there for the oil is taking allot of the heat from the block with very little time to cool, where as your BB has a stamped steel oil pan and it very deep and can remove heat quickly.

True that, and I jus turned on car right now and the temp jus rose super fast. I also lowerd the car on swift springs yesterday if it makes any difference, and I had the car jacked up for about 3 hours?

Do you have a oil cooler on your car now?

230 or so oil temp is not unusual for 85 ambient with a little spirited driving. I don't get too concerned until it gets to 245 or so.

No oil cooler atm

That's the reason why if you do any driving other than washing your car you need a oil cooler.

Not sure if this is relevant but maybe you're running too lean?

I guess it's possible, but just an exhaust can throw the A/F that out of whack...
If the OP is afraid of this, disconnect your negative terminal, turn the lights on to drain any residual electricity, then reconnect the negative

jaytwitch 03-03-2013 02:34 PM

Sorry what does A/F mean and OP?...
But that does makes sense, especially when nothing else does... Ill go ahead and try this later on today

A/F - Air to Fuel ratio
OP - Original Post(er)
