DIY: illuminated kick plates color change

Just FMI, do you order LEDs and wire and do the wiring yourself? Because I know of a GREAT site to order pre-wired LEDs of the 3mm and 5mm variety

I dont re-wire anything, I use the existing board that comes with the Illuminated kick plates. Also, The LED's on these are 1mm x half a mm

Thanks for the Idea though!

think imma try it. never really done circuit board soldering but done regular soldering.
its pretty much make sure the solder gets only hot enough to remove the led and then create a good contact when remelting it right?
0603 SMD LED - Sapphire Blue UT-692NB
that the one you use for the blues?

actually use this site and their LED's. they are cheaper and easier to deal with.

Kingbright USA, an opto-electronic LED manufacturer products include all type of LED LAMPS , SMT LED, SMD LED, LED DISPLAYS optoelectronic components

here's the blue one you'll want:
http://www.kingbrightusa.com/product...06PBC/Z-PRV-SI

and yes your correct, its the same except you'll need small needlenose pliers to work with the led's, and dont overheat them as you stated. I believe I have my soldering Iron at 750degrees.

yes thank you for that kingbright website, its my new source for all LED's!!

I dont think installing those kick plates should take more than half an hour, there's a plug about 1 foot away from the kick plate that you disconnect/reconnect.

Cjanik, you can install these in the recesses that the base model plastic ones come in right? Cause I might possibly be getting mine this weekend, and they said they have the 'exact' model im looking for on the lot but I can't remember if I told them lighted plates or not...

Yeah it doesnt matter if it cmes with illuminated kick plates or not. It will snap into place and fit. The downside of having a car without the illuminated kick plates is, ull need to run the wiring harness that comes with the illuminated kick plates that i send you. Its got the instructions and all parts necessary so its easy, just a little time consuming.

what was the led for the frosty white i mean frosty light blue? im interested because im getting my kick plates from the dealer instead of getting them installed, was it hard wiring it up? i heard u can easily bend the metal and/or scratch the aluminum.....

The wiring is easy, you just snap in a plug into the wiring harness by the passanger kick panel, and then run the wires to the kick plates.

taking it apart is a little harder, I have 1 set thats not worth anything because i bent/scratched the aluminum and now it looks like crap.

Got my set installed last night, it was super easy. The only slightly difficult part was getting the wire from the passenger to the driver side. The instructions are basically for a non-carpeted car (without the styrofoam too) it seems, so it was a little different than what they had described. I'll post my crappy iphone pictures and a little diy on how I did it a little later.

I initially attempted to modify the LEDs myself but ended up with a slight *oops* when separating the aluminum from the plastic. The soldering and such is easy for me, but I prefer to have perfect parts in a new car rather than ones with even slight issues. I later ordered a set from Cjanik and got them installed and they look great.
