DIY: LED Halo w/Video's

Are you guys trying to use the switchback function to deactivate the DRL while turn signals are active, or does it alternate in between flashes? I never messed with switch

I never messed with switch back, so I'm just curious.

anybody have any opinions on this one?

Audi Style Switchback White Amber LED Strips For Headlights Retrofit

I'm gonna start doing a new set of headlights soon and I wanna try some different stuff out. I'd like to do something that not a lot of people have done, but it's hard for me to find anything remotely original lol.

Those would be cool to try!. I helped my neighbor do a set for 1 series BMW recently at his shop. He bought a Mazda light, cut it up and fit parts of it in the light to make a dual projector!!! It was sick! might try that out, but not till winter. So if you want to be original and try it first be my guest!!

those led strips are all the same. sames ones i tried before and they are hit or miss. make sure you check the soldering on the wires because i noticed they are weak and wires break off. i have them on my car and have ben working good for almost a year now but ive installed some where leds go out or the wires break off.

Thanks guys. I thought it would be nice looking to have the whole outer edge of the headlight outlined in led light and this seems long enough. I'd really like to get a frosted piece of plastic fabbed up with a crap load of bright leds underneath it to light the whole thing up, similar to this...

but that would take some decent coin and time. I was hoping to get these headlights done by Zdayz so I could show them off lol.

Side note, are any of you guys gonna be there? I love meeting all the forum peeps over a handle of Fireball

Good luck with the project

Not heading to Z days. Summers are to busy with the triathlon coaching business. LMK if you head through Chicagoland

In my opinion this is absolutely the most detailed diy thread on this forum. If it wasn't for everyone in this thread I wouldn't feel confident opening up my own headlights. I just have a few question I didn't see answer.
1) when heating your headlights in a box should you put a wet towel under the headlight like if you were using an oven?
2) with all your experience would you say that paint or vinyl wrap is more reliable. ( which holds up to heat better) also is the vinyl wrap easy to put on with all the curves inside the headlight.
3) lastly with the rubber glue sealant from the retrofit source I noticed it comes rolled up pretty thick. Do you recommend putting it on as is or stretching it out and applying it a little skinnier.

Thanks For all the helps guys ( especially nut n much and Vdc off) I really appreciate this thread.

I've got two customer headlights to work on over the weekend and with morimoto's new XSB model switchback/DRL function Halos. Can't wait to mess around with these and possibly order myself a set

1) I don't find it necessary
2) Paint. Unless you are a master of the wrap like VDC-Off, you will have a hard time.
3) Stretch it out a bit to fit nicely in the grooves but not too thin

Dont use vinyl. It gets soft with heat and our headlights gets hot. Recently tried it with 3m primer and edge sealer and it still showed some bubbling.

Also Datsun, youll have to dremel sand those little tabs for our cars. Not hard but just another step to add.

Also guys, if ordering from theretrofit, order some Xchange relays switchbacks. Its not good to just run leds to the parking light because leds fail with heat and the Xchange will switch off the leds when the low beam turns on. This will save you from having to replace them soon for leds going out.

These particular ones turned out to be a miss. The white was super dim and the amber you pretty much couldn't even see unless you were inside. Oh well. I'm gonna try the rgb halo demon eye thing, already got the parts in. Now for some reason I can't find my heat gun to take my housings apart...

So I'm trying something new. I've seen and read a lot about hydro dipping but I've never had anything done with it personally, so I dropped off my shrouds with someone who does it professionally, I'm getting carbon fiber hydro dip with a white background that will show through in part of it, so it will basically be white and black weave. Should look pretty sweet. Going with dual projectors, RGB halos inside for demon eyes, and trs switchbacks on all four housings. I'll delete the turn signal bulb and just use the switchbacks as turn signals. All black housings with the CF hydro dip, I'm thinking its gonna look pretty sweet.

Zdayz 2015 woohoo!
