It says "Dealers are to repair vehicles falling within range of this campaign that enter the service department." Hopefully someone can report back what Nissan actually do and based on that decide whether to still cut wire, install harness or pull fuse. Nissan might be doing the same thing for all we know. I do agree that if they are doing something to the steering lock itself to prevent it failing or replacing the steering locks, then I would still take one the preventative actions.

VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN 2009 – 2011 STEERING LOCK UNIT
CAMPAIGN ID #:
APPLIED VEHICLES: 2009 – 2010 370Z (Z34)
INTRODUCTION
P3208
2009 – 2011 GTR (R35)
Check Service COMM to confirm campaign eligibility.
Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the steering lock assembly on certain specific 2009 – 2010 model year 370Z and 2009 – 2011 model year GTR vehicles due to excessive oil within the assembly, which could cause the Body Control Module (BCM) to prevent the engine from starting when the ignition is cycled. This issue does not affect steering or engine operation when the vehicle is already running.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Nissan has assigned identification number P3208 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to repair vehicles falling within range of this campaign that enter the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties, vehicles presented by transient (tourists) owners, and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory
Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle.
Awesome...this is the first posting of the actual TSB.

Just spoke to my dealer and the bros Z new part has been ordered, they confirmed the TSB. And I will be getting my $50 deductible on my extended warranty refunded. :tup

I'm planning on taking mine in to have the unit replaced (anyone know what unit they're installing?) but still plan on leaving the harness disconnected because I don't trust them. I just want a future owner to have the correct piece and the option to trust Nissan's new fangled part if they want to.

Good plan?

I suggest removing the harness before taking the car into the dealer. Re-install the harness when you get home. Probably wouldn't be a big deal, but why take a chance? (I put my fuse back in, had unit replaced, and pulled the fuse again.)

What can they say or do? The car is no longer under warranty anyway. Surely they can't not replace the part, can they?

Probably won't matter but I've seen too many dealers where it would (some seem to have a sadistic streak and love torturing ppl over warranty/recall work). R&R is an easy job so why take the risk? Just my opinion and opinions are like a**holes - everybody's got one.

I know there is someone who had cut the brown wire, and when they took it in for the recall, the dealer reconnected it If you don't take off the harness, I would put money on them throwing it away without even telling you. They'll reconnect the ESCL regardless

I would remove the harness and allow the dealer to do what they do and then put the harness back afterwards. It is very easy I would probably remove it in the parking lot of the dealer just in case the steering lock decides to fail the day you are taking the car in. You could just reconnect the brown wire using the connectors but as someone else said they may not realize what it is and remote it.

I would re-install the harness afterwards because from what I've heard/read is the steering lock is still very similar and why take the risk of the new one failing.

Just been advised by Nissan Australia that they are doing the voluntary recall also. This is good news.
