You don't removed the dash, you cut out the factory gauges. If your going this route, you never intend on putting the factory ones back it.
These are 52mm. They worked perfectly with the factory ring, and I did not have to shave off any tabs which i found increased stability. If your going to do it that way, make sure to prefit everything first. The tabs/caps only line up a certain way.
