DIY: stillen 24 row oil cooler on driver side

hello to all of u! the reason why i made this diy because just want to share some of my idea and i dont like the way to install from

Default DIY: stillen 24 row oil cooler on driver side

hello to all of u! the reason why i made this diy because just want to share some of my idea and i dont like the way to install from passenger side and move the power steering oil cooler in the middle of radiator and new oil cooler! so here u go! hope u guy like it and happy with it! and sorry for my bad english too!!!;-)


DIY: Front Bumper Removal (DIGItonium's DIY)


tools u need;



*1 1/8 socket (for new sandwich plate)
*27mm socket
*22mm open wrench
* circle saw
*2x 14mm screw
*2x 14mm nuts
*14mm socket
*14mm open wrench
*thread sealant
*magnetic drain plug/bolt (M12xP1.25)
*filtermag SS365 (fit 3.5-3.8")
*OEM drain plug washer from dealer it was 1.09 USD each
*oil filter (purolator pureONE P/N # PL10193) and the outside diameter of the filter was 3.6" filtermag SS365 will fit perfectly.



modifying original mounting plate from stillen;


original mounting bracket from "stillen"





finished product





note; on the back of the mount all u need is drill with 14mm or bigger make sure to fit the new 14mm screw.
dont need to do the same like i did. and also dont need to machine it just hand saw will be fine but of course take more time.



mount your modified mount with the cooler to the driver side;









note; and tight the modified mount with your 14mm screw and use the 14mm open wrench to hold the nut on the back. push the oil cooler all the way to the right.


drilling the holes for oil line.








hook up the oil line to the oil cooler and run the line and hook the sandwich plate with 1 1/8 socket and secure the oil cooler in place;















filtermag SS365


note; please use the thread sealant before hook up the line to your oil cooler and to your sandwich plate dont need to tierack when just run the line make sure everything fit. and the oil line that shipped with the kit was really tight fitment or just enough.



final step and finished product!;






update;

after a week of driving and today is the hottest outside it was around 85-90 and got some traffic (stop and go a lot) my oil temperature wont go higher than 185! for me its good!
really happy with stillen kit and so far no leak or any issue!

note; now tight everything with extra tierack as much as u want specially the oil cooler to the center bar that holding the horn to make sure the oil cooler hold pretty good on the car and make sure use the high temperature tierack or anything u want. and double check all the nuts and before put the front bumper please run the car for 10-20 mins to check for the leaks and the viration or any issue. and i ran my car in garage for 30 mins and the oil gauge wont go higher than 185. and also i ran my car for same amount of time before installing the oil cooler and the oil pressure gauge go up to 240!!! big help the oil cooler to me specially summer coming and i live in houston,tx which it super hot when summer!!

now put everything back and everything should be fine and look nice and organize!
hope this DIY helpful to everyone or to member that planning to have oil cooler.

So with this kit is it necessary to do all the cutting on the mounting brackets? Just curious because I would like to get a kit but honestly one that is not so intense, just don't have the means to buy all the extra tools. Great DIY, really detailed!!

actually tools is not a big deal! i can say sorry to homedepot! i went there ans get stuff i need after using it like (30 mins) i bring it back and return it to the store so is not really headache about tools. even u guys think im cheap or whatsoever but im sorry! lol!!
actually no matter what kit u get u still need those tool to tight the nut. but i still saying u might want to check out the Z1 kit. the kit come with the mounting bracket to the driver side already so u dont need to deal with modify the mounting bracket like what i did to my stillen kit. but honestly is not really a big deal to modify the stillen mount. just a metal saw to cut it and a drill 2 new holes. so far i dont get any leak or issue with stillen and im happy with it. this DIY for owner that want to go with stillen or already bought a stillen kit that they want to install it to driver side. theres DIY here that they need to cut the coner of oil cooler but honestly. i dont want to messed with my oil cooler. i rather to messed with my mounting bracket. good luck to u and if u live in a hot weather then u should think about having oil cooler. just go with 19-25 row if daily drive and if u track your car a lot then u might want to go with 34 row.

Lol! I agree with u!!
But stillen recommend the big one like that. But from fram!
I just replaced it with pure 1 that same filter I mean the outside diameter and pretty much the same an I'm using filtermag ss365 fits perfectly. Don't get any trouble or issues. I believe the bigger te better??? Lol!!

Ick, Im a big fan of the Purolator PureOne filters myself. Fram's are poopy...

Agree! That's why moved to pureone filter but of course I want exact the same as stillen recommendation. And I know there's a lot more filter that fit perfectly to the stillen sandwich plate. But I'm fine with this oversized filter! Lol!

thanks for including the Purolator PN, I'll try that on my next oil change I don't like the FRAM or STP filter that I used to run

great write up! so the only reason to mount it this way is so u can relocate the power steering cooler for better airflow? or am i missing something? another thing to mention is to lightly lube the o-rings with grease to ensure they seat properly.

Yes. U don't need to do the mess like take off the power steering and relocate it and block the airflow with new oil cooler. And modify the mounting bracket will keep u away for cutting the corner of the oil cooler.

Filter Mag, never heard of that. Pretty neat. Also cant believe you are at 180 on a hot day. Im usually around 220, can go up to 230 in traffic :/ How long does it take to warm up to 180 in the mornings?
