np, hope you do the fuse pull or brown wire cut before urs fail unless you have a spare one.

the funny is that my steering lock still works fine. lol

Has anyone had any luck getting the RevC part replaced by Nissan. I had this issue occur and it left me stranded, tried fixes, nothing worked, towed to Nissan. I figured since I was a RevC owner I would be fine, I was wrong. If anyone had any success getting anything from Nissan with a RevC part I would greatly appreciate any info.

Your VIN is not on the recall?

If not, your best bet is to bang on the module to try and get it to unlock and then you can disable it (search for info on this forum). If it is completely toast and not just stuck, then you get to pay for it out of pocket

Yeah she's a 2010 that has the RevC part which is not covered under the recall. Which is absurd. I checked a while ago when I saw this and said no big deal it's not for my part number so I'm fine. It's currently parked at Nissan, immobile, so I guess I can go back and try again.

I am infuriated because since I've owned the car I have had to
Replace the differential bushings (aftermarket cause Nissan's are junk)
-replace the clutch slave cylinder (aftermarket, no help from Nissan even though the clutch is DEFINITELY part of the Power train warranty)
And now this.

If the dealer has done all that work for you and made you pay or if you spend a lot or money/get lots of service done at a specific dealer, ask them to cover the steering lock under "good will" coverage

I tried that as well. The dealership will do nothing on good faith. I did not buy the Z from the dealership but my father purchased a 2005 frontier brand new from them and has had a relationship with this dealer since his mother had a relationship with the dealer near Oakland when he was growing up. The bushings, I had replaced by the dealership that sold me the car for no charge. The slave cylinder was done at Nissan, and the regular service is done there as well. Dealership told me "Their hands are tied". 1400$ or car that doesn't move.

Yesterday when I went to get some stuff out of the car, I found they had parked it with the bumper firmly touching the curb, with a solid scratch on the bottom of the bumper that was simply sitting on the concrete when I walked up to it.

I'll be heading back there tomorrow to see if I can get the steering lock to fully disengage because I was able to turn wheel and move car to get it on the flatbed so it's close to unlocked at least.

I'm so frustrated that I have a car that I love driving and enjoy in every way but that it has these silly problems and Nissan seems to not give a darn about one of the "halo" products of the company. (I know the GTR is the halo car but come on it's sorta close). You'd think the dealership would show a little respect and ya know? not smash it into a curb

If you get a bunch of service done at the dealer, you could appeal to Nissan Corporate for "good will" service. They can force the dealer's hand.

And just so there's no confusion here, the dealer doesn't care about you or your car. All they care about is $$$. This is why I am reluctant to ever let a dealer touch my car.

OK, folks... mine just failed. TSB does not cover me. Service guy at local dealer insists if I change it myself I have to re-teach my key FOBs, for which he will charge me $130. This doesn't seem to match with info on this site. Can someone confirm/deny having to re-teach the keys to the new steering lock? Thanks!

which year is it? mine is an 09, did not need any re-programming.

2010. Good to know...Also, there is a DIY for taping down the part that gets seized, but I am not sure if that works on a unit which has already failed. Can anyone verify? Thanks again.

yah, it seems the locks are most vulnerable to seize when your battery gets weaker. so i recommend you charge your battery first (just plug it to a battery charger), then while you attempt to start the car as usual, tap at the steering lock repeatedly.

if you're lucky it should unseize. that's when you want to cut the brown wire or pull the steering lock fuse. then shut off the car. then u can forget that the steering lock feature even existed.
