just did my 1st oil change. i bought mobil1 + k&n filter for $30. everything was easy except i took a while to take the nissan filter out. that thing was so tight on it. had to wait til my bro get home from work to use his tools to get the thing off. and also i use rhino ramp and drained the oil and then it stopped. then i lift just the back left side of the car and more oil drained out. maybe some of u guys might need to do that.

I have to call BS on the hand-loosening of the oil filter. Either that or Chong Lee from Bloodsport was the guy who put my factory filter on because it took an hour and an assortment of tools to get that thing off.

My factory filter was a bitch too, although I imagine it varies. When the going gets tough, the "easy" way to remove any filter of course is to stab it with a screwdriver and turn it with the screwdriver handle. Just be sure you stab through the end that's not by the engine

But on the other hand, I haven't had any problem removing any of the K&N filters I installed myself hot, it was only the initial factory one that was such a bitch to loosen. Another random oil-change related update: I installed K&N's HP-1010 during my oil change this evening, and it works fine. This is identical to the usually-recommended HP-1008, but it's longer (so you get more filter surface area from it). It fits with plenty of clearance even on top of Mocal's SP1FT thermostatic sandwich plate (for an oil cooler). |

The easiest way to remove the (any) oil filter is to use a band oil filter wrench………$3-4.00 from a NAPA store. I’m sure any auto part store carries it! It looks like this………….
GA333B, Wrench, Oil Filter, Band w/handles (2 7/8" to 3 1/4" filter diameter) |

I got the Rhino 12000 and have some trouble clearing. Its not just that black plastic piece, its also part of the bumper. I'll put a 1 inch tall block of wood right before the ramp to help clear. Not sure, but I've been told the 8000 has the same incline.
