Why can you not use and reuse the washer that comes with the drain plug? Is it necessary to use the OEM copper compressions washer??

It's merely a safety precaution.

Some would prefer not to risk a potential leak over a .50 copper washer.

A compression washer ensures a good seal so it won't leak thats why their used

I agree with everything you said here, except the washers cost me $1 apiece from the dealership ;)

Not neccessary, if you like rolling the dice and replacing an engine. That is why they are called crush washer...use it once, it gets crushed, then trash it on refill. Just spend the 8 bits and call it a day.

does the filterMag you got fit the purolator oil filter? i followed you link and realized there are many different sizes and styles. just want to be sure i get the correct size.

jsl370 12-28-2012 01:55 PM

NVM, i see that the there are just two sizes with different Mag strengths...

:iagree:

Me too. I bought them on Sunday, they arrived on Wednesday. $5.79, free shipping. Seller is "transglobalauto".

For anyone on the fence, it's an easy an cheap way to get the correct crush washers without visiting the dealership. ;)

Looking forward to doing my own oil change on the Z in a few weeks, thanks in no small part to this thread.

I get mine for FREE, when visiting MY dealership. One of the perks for buying 4 Z's with them. :tiphat:

As much as I would like to own 4 Z's, I'm thinking it'll be cheaper just to pay the $1, thanks :tiphat: :icon17:

I still have a JARblue at aol.com account that has been active since 1995 :icon17: I love those reps :yum:

Yes sir I am! 30K in 21 months  Tomorrow my buddy is helping with mass fluid swap mostly just to go to all synthetic - basically everything except for the oil, which I did recently

My Magnetic drain plug came with a rubber washer that hasn't show any signs of failure, so no copper crush washers needed.

Ahh...good screen name. nice to meet ya James. I see you are located near Pintsize725 (Tracie), helped her out a few times on mods. We are friends on FB. Blue was also my fav color as a kid. I wish they would bring back the Daytona Blue for Z34.

I have gone synth on all oils with aftermarket mostly Redline through out the body fluids. Never went with water wetter for coolant, stuck with the green stuff by Nissan. Probably should change out the power steering fluid....any suggestions on preferred brand? Should have gone ATE Blue for brake and clutch fluid but was in a hurry to have onzedge's son to flushi it and went with only availible fast off the shelf - Valvoline...oh well next time.

g/l on fluid swaps tomorrow, answer if you have time.

Rep coming your way :

Cheers - Curtis Lewis

Mine too, although my first magnetic drain plug from Jegs, I think used by OP of thread, stripped out on first drain.....tossed the piece of crap and researched for a stronger harder material drain plug....the brand and linky is on this thread somewhere about a gizzillian pages back....if interested. Been using the same rubber gasket for the last 18 k miles on this plug.
