Naw, you're probably referring to the sway bar (black thing in the pic below). The exhaust is quite a bit further back.

:iagree: Exhaust is further back. It's the front sway bar.

Good Information

Thanks for the information...what size filtermag would you recommend for the Z? is the SS250 the perfect size?

Thanks,

schrute 02-17-2010 11:19 AM

^ SS250 is the correct size. HP250 if you want to spend a little more and get a stronger magnet.

370zproject 02-18-2010 12:38 AM

KICS-DRAIN-PLUG Kics Project Magnetic Drain Plug 16.00 1 16PLUG-SIZE MAG1-23295

If it's M12xP1.25 then yes.

And yes -- looks like that product code is for the M12xP1.25 plug.

kk i hope its the right size they said it was better... just the one ak reccomended was on major backorder

Listen to me.

I did my first oil change on the car. I've been changing oil on cars since I was a kid, and this is the most brutal oil change I've ever had to do.

Before I change the oil in this thing again, I need: a suredrain plug (or similar), a remote oil filter location, or a hoist - or some combination of the above.

And I can't believe how pathetically small the stock filter was. You've got to be kidding me.

:ughdance:

Sorry about that. You can order ANY magnetic drain plug as long as it's
M12xP1.25 size as M4a1 mentioned.

SOME members open the rear flap and changes their oil. You can look into it. It's like 3 bolts instead of 16. But you'll probably make more mess if it's windy out. I say buy a power screwdriver and your job will be so much easier.

The stock oil filter IS pretty small :ugh:

With the cover or without, there just wasn't enough room under there...I could only use my left hand, and the filter was cranked on there...dry gasket, I think. Man, what a mess. You really need to be standing under it.

Man, no kidding...I don't know what they were thinking. I wouldn't put that thing on a Honda Civic. I had an Eclipse a while back... it had two size filters, and I always put the bigger one on. So I bought both of those, hoping to put the bigger one. It wouldn't fit, because of the alternator, so I wound up using the small Eclipse filter - at least it was bigger than stock. (I'm pretty sure it's the same size you used in your writeup, actually.)

If there's just a little room to put a remote filter, then I could switch to a better size...and it would be easy to put in the lines once I put a cooler on there...but I just can't see where to put it without standing underneath it.

Anyways, I'm SO glad to have the original oil out and fresh oil in. Still haven't pushed the engine real hard yet...getting anxious. :)

Lol - yea "Listen to me." Nice :)

There are threads on here about the larger Pure One filter if it makes you feel better putting the bigger filter in....

schao 02-20-2010 05:12 AM

ok so what i dont understand is, where are those metal shavings coming from that the magnets pick up? i know that the engine is aluminum so a magnet wont pick up aluminum bits. so is it coming from piston rings? parts attached to the crankshaft breaking in?

370zproject 02-20-2010 08:25 AM

also whats the best way to get all the oil out when i put the royal purple in i think i missed some.. the oil kept looking drity... after we filled it up do u need to lower it and let it drain?
