Great write up, I was really interested in the ease of switching the shifter out. I'm thinking I might just switch out the shifter arm when I get the new shift nob vs trying to fight the stock off from what people say about the amount of glue.

You mean the white plastic piece referenced in Post #77? It should be greased. I think I used white lithium but can't remember exactly. Search or reference the FSM for confirmation.

I greased the white cup. Im talking about the metal spacer that goes under the spring and the white cup. Im thinking it could just be the short shifter, the 350z guys have this metal rattling problem with short shifters as well.

If I'm going to replace the shifter, knob, and boot...do I really need to remove the factory knob or can I just unscrew the boot?

Ok, I studied the pic and I think I can answer my own question. It might be possiblw but extremely difficult as the boot, rubber boot, metal plate, and white cup would all be in place when putting in vise...let alone trying to unbolt plate with all that in the way. Not worth trying the hard way.

Just did this. Great diy. The dust boot is indeed the foreskin of Satan.
