Default DIY OEM Shift Boot Install on Automatic

Part #969351EA1A uve got to order this one, because if you order the sport one it costs more because of that damn s button
Tired of that boring looking transmission, but you don't want the hassle of a manual? Look no further! Rep please lol

So what I ordered was the OEM boot and bezel from my dealerships parts department.

First thing you do is pull down the base of the shift knob.

Then you pull that spring clip off, which will allow you to take the knob itself off.

Then you pull the bezel up. You don't have to yank it, it comes up pretty easily.

So there's two methods. The first one is quick and easy, the second takes a little bit more work, but results in a better finish.
Method 1
Now let's take a look at the OEM boot assembly.

If you turn it upside down, you'll see that the bezel is actually two pieces screwed together. Unscrew all the screws.

Now you can pull the boot out.

Next, lay the boot over the gearbox. Try to tuck it in as deep as possible. No matter what you'll have enough slack to freely shift.

The best way to put the bezel on is to hold the boot in place with one hand and lay it down. Try to make sure the stitching on the boot matches the positioning of the stitching on he bezel.

Now put the shift knob back on.

Voila! Enjoy your sportier looking car

Alternate method thanks to Baer383

Some of the pics aren't the best but for those of you able to do this can easily fill in the blanks.

After removing the silver cover you will see 4 clips that hold on the PRND plastic cover.

Here are the ones in the front.
After unclipping it just pull the black cover straight up and remove it.

You will see the little light with a bulb in it just pull it out and store it for later.

Here is where is gets tricky disassemble the shift boot and take the bottom piece and try to fit it over and you will see where it hits this is where you have to grind on the shifter housing.

You must also cut the bottom piece to fit(TRIM IT SLOWLY).
This is a little knob sticking off to the side just cut it off.
Take your time once all 3 pieces fit (the bottom to the console, the middle leather piece, and the silver trim ring)then just reassemble the boot assembly and install.

Wow, awesome! Now the 7AT people won't have to look any further than just the stock boot!

Great write-up

Can you give us an idea of how much this costs to do (i.e. the cost of the manual boot)?

You have to order the whole boot-bezel assembly, so it cost around $70 *at employee cost)

So the boot is just sandwiched in there? any worries about the boot being pulled out? is it possible to just switch out the auto bezel assembly with the manual bezel assembly?
