DIY 370Z Car Ramp Drawings

After looking at low profile ramps for the Z, I decided I'm just going to make them myself. The race ramps looks really nice, but way too expensive. If anyone knows of an alternative, please let me know.

I'm sure these will work, but they will be heavy and cumbersome to move around.

Yeah, that should work fine. I do the same thing but with just 2 2x4x12 pieces. But I only use them so I can jack the car up, not to actually do any work underneath. You're right about them being heavy though. But the side benefit of that is you won't need to worry about them sliding as much as I do with mine, especially since I have a painted garage floor.

Yeah that will work but they are way to long and are going to be heavy.

I just built a set this weekend out of 2x10's the bottom one is 4ft,then 3ft, then 2ft, then 1ft,last I put a 8in piece vertical on the end straight up for a stop. And I put grip tape down the center for traction and on the bottom so is does not slip on the garage floor.

these are easy to store I just put them on top of the refrigerator in the garage.
Also my car is lowered 1.25in on the front 1.0in on the back and the chin spoiler never touches it.

I would add leverage support to the back end (behind the bump stop) just incase you hit it a bit faster than intended and tilt it over. jusst incase

I don't know if you are referring to me or him but mine are screwed together and the grip tape allows you to go slow and gives me traction so I don't fly over the stop.:tiphat:

well :p i havnt seen yours but the drawing design is what i was refering to. even like 2 " worth would go along ways.

Baer383 04-20-2011 05:12 PM

It's really not necessary,I don't know if the op did the drawing but I'm saying that there is no reason for them to be that big people are over thinking the"wheel" here.

Where did you get this grip tape from? I could use something like that. The stuff I put on the bottom of mine was meant for stairs, and it was stupid expensive and is pretty brittle.

I went to Home Depot(3m makes it),and go to paint dept and ask them.

It works well for me it was a after thought but when I tried them going slow one moved so I put a strip down the middle and 2 strips on the bottom now I can go as slow as I want.

I can go up and stop on every step and they don't move.

Thank god for grip tape.:hello:

Yes, I did these drawings. I basically used the slope of the race ramps and extended the flat spot a little bit. I still need to take actual measurements to make sure my evo-r lip clears. That's why it's so long. The grip tape is a good idea and I'll incorporate that into the plans.

I don't think I'll need leverage for the back, the weight of car will keep it planted once it's on the ramp.

Nice, I'll give that a try instead then. My garage floor is ultra slippery. I basically have to give it a good bit of gas real quick to hop up both levels. If it isn't enough or is too much, it will just slide them forward.

Those are nice detailed drawing but keep in mind they are for ABS plastic ramps,it is a good design you have just watch how big you go b/c you have to move and store them.:tiphat:

Thanks. I'm gonna revise it to make it lighter. Maybe use flat 2x4's for the steps except for the bottom one.

Nismo221 04-20-2011 05:43 PM

Looks good, you can tell you put sometime and thought into it

AutoCad :icon17:

took like 10 minutes to draw.......then again, I draw for a living.

I finally built mine; work like a charm. These are solid wood and I gave them plenty of deck screws. A bit heavy but they're solid as you know what! I am sure I can put a tank on it. :tiphat: I didn't have my Z up on it this time as I only need oil change on my RSX-S but you should get an idea on the second pic about their sizes and slopes.

vetty nice

kenchan 12-31-2011 06:55 PM

Would it be hard to tell if you're going up the ramp or hit the stop?

haitech 12-31-2011 07:56 PM

You just have to count every bump you go up?

MattP725 12-31-2011 09:26 PM

Since the top bump isn't ramped like the others, it should stop the wheel assuming you are off the gas. Rhino ramps have stops no bigger than these on the top.

or a friend to yell....STOP! Looks good, I have a similar setup!

I use the same thing. Our contractor gave me the leftover MDF, about 12" wide, from buildling some shelving on our new house. I cut up lengths of it and just stack them like the drawing shows. I haven't bothered to fasten them together, add stop blocks, or cut the edges to 45 degrees.
