DIY-How to make your key fob white
I received a lot questions on how to make the key fob white, So i guess i might as well post some DIY.
Tools you Need: *a Needle(or a pin) *a pry tool(I used nail polisher:tup:) 1. Use pry tool to open (pry gently) http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30552-1.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30553-2.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30554-3.jpg 2. parts out(battery, button&rubber pad, circuit board) http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30555-4.jpg 3.Use needle to pry Nissan burguer(or Z logo if you have 2010~model) http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30556-5.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30557-6.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30558-7.jpg 4.Use pry tool to separate back cover and middle cover.(be careful not to lose little spring) http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30559-8.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure30560-9.jpg 5. Finish!! Now paint any color you want these parts. or you can wrap with CF vinyl. http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...re30561-10.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...122-232223.jpg If this DIY helped please Rep+ me:tiphat: |

Gonna paint mine black! Awesome!
|
I never thought to do this. Now I'm coming up with all kinds of reasons why I should do it:
My Z is white It would help me distinguish the Z fob from the Mazda Its going to snow another whole s-load of snow on Friday, and I have some time to kill My Z is white It will probably only cost me $175 (the cost of a new fob once I screw up the first one) None of my friends have a white fob (none of my friends have a Z, either) repped you for the great idea and nice DIY! |

That's pretty neat!
What type of paint did you use? I fear mine would get chipped and such... |
Id also like to know what kind of paint to use.
|
I will probably be doing this over the weekend. I keep thinking about it whenever I look at my fob.
What did you use to reattach the Nissan/Z Logo? |
id recommend using a vinyl dye if you have access. they sell it at most hardware/auto parts store. comes in a spray paint can and just dyes the plastic instead of putting a coat of paint, therefore it doesnt scratch off
|
so totally gonna try that and mess it up. Nice man.

Did mine last night! Turned out really really well!!! Nice DIY!! I did a gloss finish with 3 coats of red and 2 coats of clear. It matches my car perfectly and people think it's pretty sweet! Sorry for the image, took it on my phone...

Just did mine, blacked out the Z emblem.
Had to use super glue to glue back on the emblem though cuz the emblem would't stick on the painted surface with the adhesive it came with, all in all took about 5 mins and 3 hours drying time. |
^ nice job, looks great! Wish my fob had the Z on it instead of the Nissan logo.
|
thanks man! yeah i was a little confused when i intially saw the write up and the op including everyone else had a nissan logo, i guess for 2011 they changed it? or you just get it by chance? Idk either way im happy with the result. +1 to op:tup:

So I figured I'd get fancy and wrap my FOB in real 2x2 twill Carbon Fiber
lol, not a 15 minute paint job more like a few days...lots of sanding etc but I think its turning out pretty good...not completely done yet http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ction/Fob1.jpg http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ction/Fob2.jpg http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ction/Fob3.jpg Ok, so this is just a test fit, I still need to really polish it and maybe another wet sand but I think it turned out pretty nice  http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ction/Fob4.jpg |
