Tools you Need:
*a Needle(or a pin)

You are so racist.

Gonna paint mine black! Awesome!

ProfessorDave 03-30-2011 07:49 PM

I never thought to do this. Now I'm coming up with all kinds of reasons why I should do it:
My Z is white
It would help me distinguish the Z fob from the Mazda
Its going to snow another whole s-load of snow on Friday, and I have some time to kill
My Z is white
It will probably only cost me $175 (the cost of a new fob once I screw up the first one)
None of my friends have a white fob (none of my friends have a Z, either)

repped you for the great idea and nice DIY!

Go for it. A new fob is only $86, you only have to swap the covers if you screw up, not reprogram.

That's pretty neat!

What type of paint did you use? I fear mine would get chipped and such...

_TERROR_ 03-31-2011 04:04 PM

Id also like to know what kind of paint to use.

Highway 03-31-2011 05:03 PM

I will probably be doing this over the weekend. I keep thinking about it whenever I look at my fob.

What did you use to reattach the Nissan/Z Logo?

chops 03-31-2011 06:35 PM

id recommend using a vinyl dye if you have access. they sell it at most hardware/auto parts store. comes in a spray paint can and just dyes the plastic instead of putting a coat of paint, therefore it doesnt scratch off

daisuke149 04-17-2011 10:04 PM

so totally gonna try that and mess it up. Nice man.

Did mine last night! Turned out really really well!!! Nice DIY!! I did a gloss finish with 3 coats of red and 2 coats of clear. It matches my car perfectly and people think it's pretty sweet! Sorry for the image, took it on my phone...

Its got some sticky stuff on the back of it. I popped it off w a pin. Back stayed sticky and I just stuck it back on after painting.

Just did mine, blacked out the Z emblem.

Had to use super glue to glue back on the emblem though cuz the emblem would't stick on the painted surface with the adhesive it came with, all in all took about 5 mins and 3 hours drying time.

Alchemy 09-30-2011 01:07 PM

^ nice job, looks great! Wish my fob had the Z on it instead of the Nissan logo.

nmjaxx9 09-30-2011 01:58 PM

So I figured I'd get fancy and wrap my FOB in real 2x2 twill Carbon Fiber

lol, not a 15 minute paint job more like a few days...lots of sanding etc but I think its turning out pretty good...not completely done yet

Ok, so this is just a test fit, I still need to really polish it and maybe another wet sand but I think it turned out pretty nice

On ebay, a few sellers have the epoxy/hardner and CF cloth kit. There is also a company that puts together a really nice kit www.carbonmods.com with everything you need

its a matter of practice from that point :)
