This is Phase II of my Dashboard Radar SuperFlux LED installation I did in July of 2012, I liked the original installation allot, it worked great and saved me many a ticket with the stereo louder than the ability to hear the radar detector, I also added a switch on the center console so you can turn off the SuperFlux LED, especially at night! These little LEDs will blind you. - *See Video Below*
Here is a couple pics of the Phase I install: SuperFlux 4 chip LED ![]() Desolder and relocate Escort cig plug LED - Where it says "Yellow" on the PCB there used to be a yellow LED, I desoldered it and added wires to extend up into the dash with the SuperFlux on the end of the wire. ![]() Phase I Install ![]() One thing I did not like about the installation of the metra stereo LED was if my right hand was at 2 o’clock on the steering wheel my arm was blocking the LED light, so I would most of the time drive so I could have a clear view of the LED if I had the tunes loud. The solution was to install the SuperFlux LED next to the Tachometer in the combination meter housing, I was kind of hesitant at first, but thanks to DIGItonium’s post on changing LED colors and working on the Combination Meter: Part 1 and researching the service manual I went to work. Removing the combination meter is fairly easy, really just four bolts and a couple of electrical plugs, here is a diagram from the service manual that shows how the combination meter goes together. ![]() The hardest part was making sure I did not scratch or mark the silver plastic surface of the combination meter front cover, I used a punch to initially mark the location for the LED hole, I matched the location of the trip odometer reset on the left side of the tachometer, I then used a drill bit with only my fingers to drill the hole, the plastic drills easy by hand, I just take my time and wanted to make sure I didn’t fork up the front cover surface. ![]() ![]() ![]() I first super-glued the LED to the back of the front cover, I then hot-glued it in, the middle section (meter housing) also needed to be drilled to make enough room for the backside of the LED and the wire connection. ![]() ![]() Here is the combination meter reassembled, installed in the car. ![]() Here’s a little video I did on this mod... A couple of things – Don’t forget to turn on the switch or the light won’t go on! (Critical when driving!) - LOL! My test pipes are loud as hell, I have the back hatch open so there's more light in the cab for the video, hehe… also lets MORE noise in. SuperFlux Radar LED Dash Mount - Phase II - YouTube |
