Dashboard Backlight

I noticed for the Z that all the background light (the light that illuminates the dash buttons at night) is red. Is there any simple way of changing this? (for a navi equipped car).

If you have a fine tip soldering iron and surface mount LEDs, then that's as simple as it gets. I plan on working on LED mods this July during the 2-week company shutdown.

I actually did this in my MazdaSpeed Protege and unless you really know what you're doing, you can end up with a very expensive OOPS on your hands. IMO, I would get some random panel out of another car and practice a few times before you try this with a $40,000 car.

Or wait until someone else does it on theres, then work a deal and have them do your's as well... Provided they arent on the other side of the country. This is a big mod in the Scion world. I would do it myself, but I don't wanna put more money into a car I plan not to be driving by the end of this year. =)

Ya know, that damned new Z and all lol. Just HAFTA buy it!

I agree with this. I actually changed the backlighting in my Scion xA and come from years of soldering and electronics experience. I don't recommend someone just hop on digikey and order some LED's and an RS iron and think they'll have new colors by tomorrow.

I'm very tempted to do this on my Z, but even with my experience I'm nervous about screwing up my dash just yet. I'm hoping some totaled 370s start showing up and I can snag a dash on the cheap to do the replacements on. If I can ever get a spare dash I'd be willing to do one-offs for folks once I'd finished mine.
