Default spray painting stock rims CAN IT BE DONE RIGHT?

LOL! as much as it scares me to think of me+spray paint can and my Z im thinking of going for it. Just a good black matte with a couple coats of gloss on the top. Cleaning the wheel throughly,320 grit sandpaper, using etch primer and filler primer and a good spray paint I think it can be done.. I searched and searched and found noone on here who has tried. Am i being a cheap bastard or can it be done. and done right?? any tips?/

It can be done if you have patience. It's very easy to screw up though. Preping the wheels for paint and humidity will be your biggest issues.

I did it on the Ray wheels that came with my Lancer Ralliart, this is actually a great how to on the Evo forums. I've had them for 2 years and no chipping.

But essentially, like everyone says, patience.

I would recommend:

- sanding first
- 4 coats of primer
-4 coats of the color you are using,
- 2 clear coats if you are staying relatively flat or matte
- 4-5 clear coats if going for glossy

use playing cards stuck in the bead of the tire to limit overspray.

And spray into the wind so that you won't get any paint on the body.

SO.....how did all of this go????

A little interested, have some wheels that could use a fresh look. Anyone looked at doing them with a 2-part urethane and touch-up gun? Figure you can control the paint a lot better from a gun than a spray can.

Aren't you supposed to pull the caliper off to paint?
