Just wanted to say thanks for the DIY! I used your DIY to change my front shocks.

I was able to break the torque on it by placing a 22mm wrench on the side closest to the front of the car. Get it on there good and make sure it stays aligned during the whole process. On the back side go at it with a 19mm socket, 12" extension, 1/2" ratchet, and a nice size pipe. While yanking on the bar make sure the 22mm stays wedged in and give it a tug. Good luck.

Yes indeed, a nice long breaker bar and a 6 point socket set is all I needed to get those bad boys off. If you can imagine I originally attempted this with a 12 point socket! Trashed the nuts. Had to order new ones from Nissan.

Updated the difficulty slightly for jobs that use springs other than TEIN. Since some springs are wound differently, it makes it harder to fit the compressor on them. You have to fight it and it gets frustrating.

Be careful!

Got my Swifts installed today thanks to this DIY! Just one note: the nut sizes in step 6

Step 6.
Remove the 17mm lower control arm bolt & 14mm sway bar link
...are actually 19mm on the lower control arm and 17mm on the sway bar.

Other than that, Great DIY!

Thanks!

6/10 is a little high.

Springs are really easy, and the fact the rears are how the are makes it even easier.

Id rather install 10 sets of springs than touch a test pipe again.

I don't find the job to be difficult but a compressed spring, no matter what tool I'm using to compress it, scares me. I'd much rather do a test pipe install. The right extensions, the right pipe, and a hammer make it actually quite simple.

Question, when putting the new spring on the strut, how do you know how far to tighten down the top hat? Does it stop at a certain point? I'm worried about having different amounts of compression in the springs.

I just eye balled it to the original. I took a pic and measured so I can see how far down it was. I think it can do down more but I wouldn't do it. Could damage it.

What are the torque specs for each of these bolts?

What he said.... I am getting ready to install my swift springs this weekend and was wondering if anyone had any torque specs on all the various bolts, (strut mounts, lower control arm bolts, sway bar endlinks)??

ClemsonWill 04-28-2011 10:49 AM

After some searching I was able to put the information together.

Use this thread to read the diagrams

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...que-specs.html

And this link for the service manual if you don't want to download it.

Index of /FSM/370Z/Coupe

You just have to sift through the pages to find the specs you are looking for.

Hope this helps!
