DIY: Coilover Install
I only recommend this setup if you plan on tracking the car more then using as a daily driver.
I need to go back and adjust the hight. When I do I'll be sure to take pictures. I want another .5" front and 1" rear. If you ever need help feel free to PM me. Socket sizes needed: You will also need breaker bar or any kind of fluid (liquid wrench etc... bolts are very tight. Be sure to use 6 point sockets or you WILL destroy the nut. Pictures 1-3: Ksport coilovers RR dampening version (may differ from yours i.e. your rear spring and shock may be seperate). step 1: Remove strut bar from engine bay (picture 4) step 2: remove nuts from upper mount to the right of where the strut bar was bolted down. step 4: raise car and remove front wheel an remove rubber garmets from the metal braket. There are 4. (picture 5) step 5: remove the nut on the braket circled in red with a 12mm socket. (pic 6) step 6:remove nut for bottom mount on the metal braket with 19mm socket and the other 3 just holding the bracket with a 14mm socket. (pic 7&8) step 7:remove nut and remove from bottom mount (pic 9&10) step 8:remove OEM coilover very slowly and carefully. You do not want to tear or damage your brake lines. step 9: adjust the hight of your aftermarket coilover and install. REAR *Note- you do not need to remove your rear plastic interior untill you are ready to adjust your dampening. step 1:remove rear wheel step 2:remove nut circled (picture 11) step 3:remove top nuts with 12mm socket (pic 12) step 4: pull down on dust guard, rotor, whater you wish and push the bottom mount towards the car and pull out. (pic 13) step 5:remove bolt circled in picture 14 but you HAVE to put a wrench or rachet on the nut on the other side. Do not fear the spring its under almost 0 load. step 6: pull down on control arm and remove spring, reenstall the bolt. Then go ahead and put in you coilover. (pic 15) *NOTE if you have a coilover system that has the rear shocks and springs seperate, this is when you in the spring. RANDOM INSTALL PICS: 16- Last edited by destinyZ; 11-04-2010 at 09:26 PM. |

Just a note on rear step 5. The bolt that you have to loosen at the other end of the control arm is an eccentric bolt that sets rear camber, mark the bolt head position before you loosen it so that you can come back to a reasonable setting. If you are lowering the car you probably want an alignment anyway.

A big tip is to use a 6 point socket set!!!! Especially on the lower bracket and shock (14mm and 19mm nuts)
