Jack Stands
I've been searching all over for some jack stands that will work without damaging the pinch rail. I need to get all four corners up to remove the wheels. I'm having the wheels powder coated, so it will be sitting on stands for at least a few days to a week. My concern is damaging the frame if I don't use the proper jack stands or placement. Any thoughts?? Are there any jack stand pinch rail adapters or pads that will work with the jack stands or even my floor jack for that matter, I'm not coming up with anything in my searches. :confused:

You need all four off the ground to replace the wheels?
Well, if you do want to do it that way, you can get a set of flat jack stands and but some soft pine wood blocks between the stands and the rails. The pine wood will absorb all the sinking weight and will not damage your car. |

Ideally it would be great if I had a cheap set of spare wheels to fit on, but I doubt anything that would clear the sport brakes would be cheap. So the pinch rails will sink into the pine wood then, doesn't sound like a bad Idea, I may have to do that. I was hoping for some sort or pinch rail pad with a groove cut into it, it's hard to believe that knowone makes something like this. I mean a lot of cars have this type of underbody. |

I have jack stands with the groove in it. But I have no idea where I got them from. May have been from harbor freight.

You can also put a groove in a hockey puck. Use a dremel to create the groove. Another trick for a jack is to get a rare earth magnet about 1/2" diameter and and less than the thickness of the hockey puck. Bore a hole on the jack side of the puck and epoxy it to the magnet. The magnet is plenty strong enough to hold the puck to the rail. I like to place the puck on the rail first and then put the jack under the car. Takes the guess work out of whether or not I have it centered on the rail or not.

Had a question. How to you raise the Z on jacks and then secure it with jackstands? On my Honda Prelude, I put a low-profile racing jack underneath the front tow-hook, lift up the car, then place jackstands underneath the jack points as I lower the car. With the 370z, i'm noticing (and please correct me if i'm wrong), that there's no front tow-hook underneath the front of the car for me to this. How do you guys suggest going about and raising up the car, and also securing it with jackstands?

There is a tow hook, but it's up high in the grille area. I just lifted one side at a time and lowered onto the jack stands. Just put the jack slightly to the right of the jacking point, then slide the jack stand in as close to the jack as possible and lower on the jack stand, repeat for all 4 corners.

Thanks for the replies. So the only way is to lift from the sides then, eh? Is it safe (for the car) to lift using a jack, to the sides of the jack/safety points? Anywhere along the entire jacking rail along the sides would work?
