I sure don't want to screw up the new car.
You can do the install by yourself. Read this guide and another DIY by another member and you should be good. HOWEVER, during the bumper removal process, you MUST need another person to hold the other side of the bumper.

The thing you should watch out for is to buy a good dremel. I spent hours cutting that hole with a hack saw! So, get a dremel or something good, have a lot of patience (i took my time and spent close to 4 hours because I was taking my time), carefully remove the bumper. There's a DIY on bumper removal in the DIY section (by DIGITONIUM). Def follow that. Helped me out a lot.

Good luck.

Thank you . yes unfortunately you do have to remove the bumper. But it's pretty easy. I was VERY nervous too in the beginning but if you follow the bumper removal DIY, and have a person or two help you hold the bumper as you remove it, it's VERY easy. As for cleaning, it depends on your driving areas. If you live in a dusty area or country road, it's probably needs to be cleaned quicker. Ask Josh for the average K&N filter life before recharging.

Heck, if you go over to the Stillen site they have specials going on till the end of the month. If your in the market for an CBE you can get a free intake (I think for the 370Z it is the G3 intake).

Exactly. It's a great deal but I don't believe I want their exhaust. Just the intake. Probably end up getting this combo and as soon as it comes in I'll be posting a brand new exhaust for sale lol, but maybe not. Gains would be nice but I'm not a fan of the tips.

For people that don't want to remove the front bumper lets say yearly to clean the filters, would you recomend the G2? and how much of a performance differance would you expect to see from G2 to G3?

The filters can go 50,000 miles before cleaning. The G2 won't give you anywhere near the gains as the G3. If you're going to go short ram, I'd look at the R2c system.

50,000 miles really? lol I won't need to look at it for 10 years for as much miles I put on it...Josh can you confirm this? my only concern is having to remove the bumper yearly to clean the filters. I live in the city so beside regular construction I won't see much dust...

Removing the bumper is not hard at all. Especially once a year. It took me 5 minutes tops.

Yes, K&N recommends 50,000 miles on conical filters, and 100,000 miles on panel filters for cleaning.

I'll be honest, most enthusiasts shoot for ~30,000 miles, but you can always clock the filters every 6 months, airflow always seems to follow a pattern, and certain areas will see more flow. So by moving them a bit, you'll get the same filtration, without having to clean/recharge them.

But the increased performance from the Gen 3's will make up for any extra effort, which once you've removed the bumper will prove to be minimal, as others have stated. Highly recommend going for the G3's.. especially with this month's special..

I didnt want to open a new thread, hope thats ok !

last week I installed my GEN3 and today I took the car to the dyno again. As you might have seen in my video thread I was able to realise a gain of about 6WHP compared to base line dyno with my cat-back exhaust system.

So I was very excited about how much the combination of exhaust and stillen intake will give me.

Unfortunately it looks like the intake actually steals me a lot of HP

we did like 4 runs in 5th gear (7AT) up to the vmax limiter and there was a significant loss compared to stock intake and CBE. However the curve still went up when the speed limiter hit so is it possible that the stillen AI moves the powerband way up the revs ?

Surprisingly when we tried to measure in 4th gear we made 2 runs with lots of wheel spin on the dyno even with a 260 pounds guy on the passenger seat. Last week with just the CBE dyno in 4th gear was no problem at all.

So it "looks" like we gained lots of torque and power from the G3 ... BUT ... after putting like 10 car batteries in the trunk plus the 2nd person in the car the dyno was actually able to measure without spin and again, we saw a lot less HP than we had before

is it possible that I need to reset my learned ecu values completely and drive the car for a couple of miles before the ECU can take advantage of the G3 ? I just cannot believe that this well recognized and prooven system will really cost me HP instead of gain ...

just to make clear, I drove the car for about 60 miles both in the city and on the autobahn and we did like 6 dyno runs in total - not enough time for ecu to recalibrate ?

please let me know cause it took quite some time for the install and of course cost quite some money and currently I'm really not happy at all !

Chris

My girlfriend just ordered the intake for me last night for my bday next week. Excited to get this one on now. I had one on my previous 370Z but I wasn't able to salvage it, so a new one on the way for the 40th
