DIY: GTR Red Start-Stop Button Swap out

The first thing is mine is a 7AT so the manual version will differ but the ideas the same.
You have to remove the shift bezel that holds the hazard button.
You need to carefully lift up the shifter bezel from the base to pop it off, and disconnect the hazard button.
In the pic i also popped up the lower suede shifter bezel.
I used a screw driver so be careful so you don't leave a scratch.

Remove the kneepads there is one screw on each side holding the kneepads, and the rest are metal snap clips, They do come off pretty easily.

Next (remove the two screws that hold the front fascia panel, and pull forward) i went over board in what screws to be removed .. so all you need is the two in the pic.

You can see in the pic the ignition switch. Next compress the ignition sides to release the ignition Button from the front panel
and push the switch towards you to remove it.

http://www.the370z.com/members/trip-...scf0827-vi.jpg

Then disconnect the wire harness from the switch

http://www.the370z.com/members/trip-...3-dscf0828.jpg

Now take the GTR Button, and connect it to the wire harness

http://www.the370z.com/members/trip-...scf0829-vi.jpg

Now just slide the button back in

Here the Lower Bezel has been reinstalled followed by the top bezel reconnect the hazard wires, and your done.
Sorry for If I left anything out but the pics should help.

You should do something that signifies it as "The Big Red Button" somehow... Make it sinister... :stirthepot:

azn370z 05-05-2010 07:26 PM

Have you thought of switching out the z gearshift for the gtr? Although The Button layout is different.

Trips 05-05-2010 09:08 PM

That would be an expensive Mod, if it were possible...

Rickey89 05-05-2010 11:58 PM

looks nice, 40 dollars is not bad at all, were there any other tools neccessary ? just what you mentioned?

Trips 05-06-2010 12:36 AM

all you need is a Phillip's screwdriver and a small screwdriver

G Fo12ce 05-06-2010 10:30 AM

Thanks Triple's. It's on my list to get now! Looks good.

efuseakay 05-12-2010 01:00 PM

Easy install and looks much much better. Never even thought about doing it until I saw the thread. Thanks!

TreeSemdyZee 06-26-2010 08:55 PM

Now I know why I don't like the current button. Ordering red one now.
Gotta love simple mods. The last one I did took about 20 hours total.

NewYorkJon34 06-27-2010 10:02 AM

^Your gonna love your red button bro, it even feels better to push. The Start/Stop letters are raised up alil. It just feels like a higher quality product, but then again it is from the GT-R so it should be.

Zeto 06-28-2010 11:20 PM

I'm gona have to add this mod now lol!

Boost_lee 06-29-2010 03:49 AM

mine arrived today, cant wait to install !

rarwz 06-29-2010 05:47 AM

I dropped by my local dealership to order mine... "They are not available from ANY dealership in the USA and it will have to be back ordered. It can take up to two months to get in"....

I'll check a few more places I guess.

Courtesy Nissan in Dallas, TX had several as of last Friday. Good luck.

CaptainSlow 06-29-2010 01:32 PM

Anyone particular reason why people like this version over the stock button?
