Sorry to hear about that BUT what prompted you to do that?
You're probably the first to have done that :ugh2: Not a bad thing I was just curious |

To reset air bag light. It pays to search this forum before going to the dealer.

unfortunately when installed my button the forums were down, hence i could no searching
|
Just got my big red button together with the rear fog light in preparation for my Z's arrival. Good write up. Thanks.
|
I just put mine in.....and thanks in large part to this write-up it took roughly 10 minutes to do, and that was taking it slow. Small hands make it even easier! ;)
|
I installed mine a few weeks ago. I didn't take the dash apart though. I just used a fiberglass pry tool the same I used to pop the covers off the dome lights to put the led's in. Just put the pry tool underneath the button trim piece at the 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions and gently pop it out. Then pull the stock button out unhook the harness, plug the into the GTR button pop it back in and your set. I believe a DIY for that way is on the forum somewhere too

if anyone is interested in selling their OEM start/stop button PM me.
|
I did this drunk and my dumbass re-installed the factory push start button after I got it off. I'm too busy now to find time to do it the right way FML...

That's too funny. |
I was about to pull the trigger and get one today, but I had to hurry back to work.... only 54 dollars at the Nissan Dealership. They tend to have GT-Rs enter their shop on the daily....
|
Super easy install once you know which screws take the dash apart!
Thanks! |
Easiest install EVAR. Great write up and thank you!
|
Great idea and just ordered the part. Thanks to contributors!

IMHO i think the stock one not that it looks better or anything i just would rather keep the stock one in although i do think they should have put a different push button in to differentiate from all their other cars but thats just me
|
Hi guys a quick question (sorry if it was asked before, I couldn't find it): Would this mod void my warranty? I would really appreciate any response asap. Thanks
|
Aftermarket mods are not covered by warranty, although I'm not exactly sure about putting a GT-R start button on a Z (I would guess they still won't cover it). If the dealer can claim that your aftermarket part or the install of an aftermarket part caused the problem, they won't warranty stock parts that fail because of it. So unless your start button causes something else to fail (highly unlikely) or fails itself, I wouldn't worry about it.
If you're that concerned about it, just keep the stock button around and reinstall it if you have to take your car to a dealer. |
For someone like me who is absolutely terrible in being able to install any sort of modifications, this was very easy using Triple's instructions. I didn't want to risk marking up the start button by using the alternative method so I used Triple's instructions. Took me around 10 minutes to install. Looks waaaaaay better I think. From some of the people who have riden in my afterwards, thats one of the first things they notice inside the car.

The very first comment in this thread has photos -- I want the CF/SD card slot input for my music, is this a standard Nissan thing or an after market?
|

I didn't know people owned CF cards anymore. |
Quote:
Don't know exactly if they even offer that anymore |
Well I have the USB slot in the center console, but having the slot on the dash would be better.
And along this thread, I take it the current 2014 Z takes the same red start button and this mod is still valid? |
Yes. :)
|
My first mod! I'm surprised there are so many pages here of folks taking off so many panels and not just popping out the outer ring with a screwdriver. Maybe the first post needs to be edited to say DON'T DO IT THIS WAY!
I'd have finished 10 minutes sooner but I was trying to pull the start button out of the ring and not push. As soon as I checked here to see my errors I pushed instead, and the button went flying into the back seat. The new one looks great! |
your Z has a back seat? :rofl2:

But I didn't want folks to potentially damage the sides of the panel trying to pop out the switch with a screwdriver  Thats the reason for the more careful DIY approach never mind this is the Original DIY and so their are others with the simple approach since then. But Thanks for the advise. Good to hear you did it  |

Where do you keep the hookers? |
Let me look... no it doesn't!
|
Installed my GTR start button this past Saturday. Tried popping off the ring with a eye glass screw driver but it wasn't coming out so I went with a small screw driver with a bigger surface to make sure I didn't leave any dents. It pops out pretty easy, only had to do one side. Very happy with the results, this DIY was very helpful.

Very easy to install after reading the intructions here, THANKS!
I used an old credit card pushing in the corner of the card in at 11 and 4 o'clock positions and the clips clicked off... the rest was easy just followed the pictures here... this is my first mod, jut got the car a week ago, thanks again! |
got my button for $37 bucks here
|
just did this today. thanks to this thread it took at most 10 min.
|
Thanks for the how to... made this super easy.

I think it is hard to take a picture of the GTR button, it is very nice looking. It's not just red plastic, it is more like glittery nail polish.
Also the quick method without removing dash is very safe and easy, I used a laminated card to press in the clips. The clips are between 4-5 and 9-10 position on a clock. No need to pull, if you press in the clips it will pop out on that side. |
Thanks for write up took no time at all! Looks so much nicer! As others of said Nissan should have this come with the Z.
