took about 5-10 min, I think it took me longer to find my Philips screwdriver..lol
|
Took me 20 min.... No brainer for the cost.. I agree way better in person.. Thanks for the DIY!
|
Very easy mod and price wasn't bad either! Looks awesome!
|

WoW!! :)

I'm not surprised that Nissan would pick up on the mod as popular as it is. Wonder how soon it might make it into production Zs.
|
Now they just got clue in an fix the ugly fuel gauge like many of is have already with help from simota1 (thx again)
|
Yep, fuel gauge is definitely another mod Nissan should clue into. I have both on my Z.

Did this mod the other night. BRB (big red button) makes it look so much better. Write up definitely made it easy. Took about 10 minutes and everything was bask in place. Now it's time to start on performance mods... any advice?
|
Big thanks to Triple's. Just did this mod this morning, took about 20 minutes and went seamlessly. The writeup and pics made it exponentially easier.
|
I definitely, have to do this mod. Looks pretty straight forward to me. Just need to wait for my next paycheck.
|
+1 Rep. Got it done in less than 20 minutes, today. The hardest part was figuring out which screws did and didn't have to come out, when removing the kneepads.
Thanks for a solid DIY. |
Just did the mod! Thanks OP.
Eihtball99 is right - there's lots of screws when you take the shift bezel off. Can't mess it up, though. I took off more than I needed to, but it was no big deal. A tough part for me was taking the old button out of its housing with the clips on the side. Looks better in person than it does in pictures. And do others notice a nicer button feeling? Like.. it feels like a real button now. Launch warheads kind of button. http://www.the370z.com/members/eazyd...button-mod.jpg p.s. - use an old t-shirt to put on your flathead screwdriver head as you pry up the shift bezel. No worries that way. |
Installed the button and a new shifter in about 20 minutes. Super easy mod and makes a huge difference.
|
Took 20 minutes and simple. Only trouble was finding the other screw for the knee pad. (two total per knee pad; black screws) Also I hit the start button a few times trying to get the button to pop out of the silver housing which made me want to disconnect the battery; but I didn't and everything still was easy. Looks sweet.

I bit the bullet, it looked to sexy not to do. I'm going to tell people it added 15 rwhp if they ask! Definitely not worthy of being called a mod though. It is slightly diff from instructions above on a manual tranny. Pain in but cuz of shift boot etc in the way. Looks great in a red car though!

For real though, nice idea and it looks good. It's sweet they can be swapped out so easily without needing to cut your dash or change the wiring. |
Installed mine today. The metallic red really pops against the black dash!
|
Hurricane Irene is giving me too much time on my hands! I just installed the GT-R start button...very nice and simple DYI, it looks much better than the stock button. I too agree that the metallic red really pops and makes the interior look racier. Now onto the center console mounted radar detector mute button! +1 on the step by step pics for this DYI, very well done.
|
So basically, we paid $40 for the red color? Can it be painted? lol just wondering
Looks pretty neat compare to the white one |

Purchased mine today from Westco Nissan, thanks sponsor! |

The white one is flat with a matte, textured finish while the red one has a concave shape and a smooth, shiny metallic finish. |
got it the other day, just put it in. Here is a little comparo picture. Notice the candy red color, not just flat satin red.

Hmm, now I am thinking I might want this as well. About how long is the install taking people? All I need is a screwdriver? Does the OEM button come with install instructions? Just don't want to run into any snags.
Thanks! |
just a screw driver is all u need pop the 2 side leg panels out 4 screws and the screen area out and u r set

There's five pages before your post that include all the answers to all of your questions, including detailed pictures of the installation. |
Sorry, was up late working OT and just asked the questions before going through the whole thread
|
ordered mine last week from the Z store so I'll post some pics of my own hopefully this week.
|
Just figured I'd ask.... Why has no one tried to relocate the start button to, say the hazard's location? would it not fit properly? I'm no good with wiring and you would think if it could be done someone already would have, I mean if they really want it to be like a GTR. I don't know what you would do with the fat hole thats now left button-less but it was just a thought.

Would be pretty interesting to have this done. Especially for the 7AT guys if we could have the hazard button moved to the right (blank) slot. And have the on button there... That would be really interesting to see now that I think about it a little more. All one would really have to do is cut the plug off, and run wires from the original hole, to the new location, and connect them to the same colors on the plug... Then make a new mount for the ring... :icon08: |
Got mine today, installed it in 15 Min! It looks Great!
