I had nav tool installed 4 weeks ago but the installer used a cmos lens very grainny at nite very poor quality . I have left him and just want to order the right ccd lens can any one help me thanks

Hi I am installing a rear camera with a Kenwood DNX6960 . I purchased a Boyo lic.Plate mount camera but I like your mount. I have done a sililar mount with a boyo very small camera in a 2010 Jeep wrangler bumper but the issue is the Boyo camera has no camera angle adjustment and the plug location you used on the 370z looks like the camera angle would me pointed up if the mount was flush with the plug surface?
Please give me your thoughts.

I wouldn't worry about the angle as long as your cam is a wide angle lens

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I have looked through all the posts buy may have missed it. Will this camera automatically come on when the car is in reverse or do you have to hit a special button/mode?

Edit: Found out from reading the documents further. Now looking for the cheapest location to buy the navtool and a camera. Thanks for the help

Did the OP hook up a DVD player, and if so, where is the DVD player mounted, and where does the audio get hooked up to? The Navtool only does video, how does the Stock NAV unit know where to get the audio from? Because it has to take the video from Navtool, and Audio from DVD player....doesnt make sense

I believe you run the audio to the normal rca jacks. I *think* that when you put it to those inputs, it will just do the 'no video while car is moving' but still work the audio. THen you just use nav tool to overide the video so you have both.

A good place for the dvd player might be either behind the seats on the floor or on the cubbies behind the seats. OThers have put them in the glove box, but im not sure ours is big enough

Installed a rear back up cam using this method and a NAVTOOL + License plate bulb lens sony CCD camera off ebay.

Navtool also did some "V.A.V.E" on their part and now its a black box with just leads coming out of it for all connections including video 1/2 etc. Its small enough that I could leave it inside the instrument panel. They label the leads. The only one that was mildly confusing was the "Accessory Power input" which turned out just to be the +12V supply line to power the device.

The most difficult part is correctly identifying the reverse signal wire. I had to probe several "orange" wires until I found the correct one in harness in the trunk on the drivers side.

The start button connector is sort of a pain too.

I'm looking to do this, can you use a rear cam via the aux in inside the console and be able to watch cam without having to be in reverse? I like to use cam to add in lane changing etc. Not sure if this was mentioned

Yes, the navtool has 2 inputs: video 1 and 2. One of those is auto powered via another cable input (aka when the reverse light comes out). The other input is powered by a switch. You would most likely want the input powered by the switch so you could just flip it and see the camera whenever you wanted.

Ok guys:

I just installed my rear view cam today. I made all of my connections (2). I do have a question if anyone can answer. I connected mine directly through the vid input in the center console and then provided power. I didn't buy a Navtool or any vid in motion since that wasn't my goal. I just wanted to add a rear cam.

My question is this: Is there a way to have the cam show and somehow by-pass the e-brake having to be up one notch? I don't feel the need to spend lots of $$$ just so I don't have to pull e-brake one notch. Everything else works great. So just looking for a e-brake work around.

EDIT: I guess I may have to get the Navtool unless I can find a work around/bypass for the speed sensor. Works great with the one-click until I go over 1mph. Damn speed sensor...(cryin' inside)
