Thanks guys for the great write up and pixs. I am not mechanically inclined but 30 mins later, I got it changed. My 2009 did not have a filter in it and now the cabin smells clean. I ended up using the STP brand as it was the only local one I could find.

Just installed the TYC 800091P cabin air filter in my '09 and the filter was a little too long that I had trouble closing the door.
The TYC 800091P is designed for the '09 G37 coupe

FYI, I ran into a little problem when reassembling everything back together. I couldn't figure out screw #1 (from page 1 diagram) wouldn't screw in and tighten down. After taking it back off, the metal clip it screws into had fallen out. I had to mash it down with some needle nose plyers so it would stay in place.

i just put the FRAM filter in. it doesn't fit in properly so i ended up ripping off the foam on both sides and cutting up the filter for the slits in the cover and mushed the cover back on.
also i don't know if this happened to the rest of you guys but my glove compartment door now opens down slowly, whereas it used to just plop down. i honestly don't know what caused this but at least it opens down at a even slow pace. my filter was a year old and it had some dust and tiny leaves but wasn't too bad actually

I just got the toyota/lexus filter from my job (and the best part is that it was free) didnt think working at lexus would benefit in any way when I drive nissans only but i guess it did.
I will try to install it this weekend...

I finally had some time to mess around with the car this weekend and decided to install the ac filter.... only to find out the car already had one in there from the factory.
Atleast I learned how to take whole glovebox apart.

I still have the exact same problem. I try leave the A/C on so I don't get the bad smell. I also notice the bad smell only comes out when blowing COLD air with no A/C. When you turn up the heat there is no bad smell. I also recently changed the air filter so I know it's probably not the filters problem. I'm not really sure what the deal is. I think I'm going to spray some febreeze on the air filter and hopefully it blows good smelly air instead of stinky ones.

I think that when you run the A/C in the summer there is some moisture that collects on the evaporator and other parts inside the dashboard after you shut off the A/C. Then it sits creating bacteria hence the smell.
