My dealership quoted me $115 for this thanks for this diy write up

I installed a WIX 24883 in my '09 today. I found it at O'Reilly for $17.99 + tax. AutoZone didn't carry any cabin filters except STP brand and didn't have the correct size in stock anyway. A very easy install, only took a few minutes thanks to the pioneers who figured this out and posted the very helpful instructions & photos.
The only thing that was the slightest bit tricky is when I pulled the glovebox door off the little spring-wound retraction lanyard popped off. When reinstalling the door, you need small hands (which I don't have) to position the connector for the lanyard back on the post on the side of the door and then get the door back in position over the hinge points to snap it back in place without the lanyard coming unattached again. Odd that Nissan didn't include a filter in an HVAC system that is obviously designed for one on that model year. |
I'll be doing this install this week. Thanks for the write up!

I did mine tonight using Purolator C35479
Purolator C35479 BreatheEASY Cabin Air Filter : Amazon.com : Automotive I recommend a long philips screwdriver, that way you can pull the glove box unit out altogether. Thanks for the write up. |
Does the air filter only filter recycled air in the cabin? I never use that option and just use air straight from outside.

FWIW, you can see the filter from the battery compartment (noticed this when I removed EPDM to get to SLU fuse). Q&D way to check it. |

I did my cab filter today, it was easy. after 30,000 miles you can see the importance of replacing the cab filter.
Attachment 65743 Attachment 65745 As you can see,old vs new. Plus the new filter comes with foam pads on the ends for a snug fitment. |
Ok, I'm new to posting here, but I just purchased an '11 Z and wondered about the cabin air filter. I read thru several pages of the postings here then went out and removed my glove box (as directed in the first few pages). As far as the cover over the filter and the tab, if you press down slightly on the left side while pulling out gently on the right, you'll pop the right side of the cover free and slide the cover to the right. This will pull the tab gently free. I couldn't believe it but mine actually had an air filter in it. Took it down to O'Reilly, and ABC Auto....no luck. Went to Auto Zone and got one of the service guys who was glad to help me rifle thru several filters til finding an ideal one...the STP CAF7766. This one has charcoal in it (to get rid of smells) and foam on both the front and back ends. If you remove the foam and slide it into the upper rear guides within the housing, it will fit almost perfectly. If you seat it right the cover will snuggly close on it when putting it back in place. Its a nice snug fit so don't force anything. With the foam removed, mine fit and worked perfect.....I actually think better than the factory original I removed. Good luck filter huntin'!

caneman88 & g96818, you guys rock! Your posts made this process very quick and easy. Thanks a lot!

So does the vehicle come with a cabin air filter already installed? Also will you be able to tell a difference if I replace it with one that is charcoal activated?

I can't smell any outside odors or smells while running the A/C, I have to say yes... it's working. Because when running windows down, you can smell all of the "fields" in the local area. :icon17: |
the charcoal ones definitely do work very well especially during allergy season. :)

Awesome! Thanks guys. I will be ordering one today
