DIY: Adding In-Cabin air filter to the 370Z

Just ordered the FRAM CF10157. Plan on swapping it in this weekend. Any guesses on how bad the stock one will look?

You may or may not need to go MOPP 4 for the removal... Prolly a good idea to have it ready to go..

Correct. Housing is all there but no filter.

I think Walmart has the arm&hammer filters that filter a lot better than the stock.

Mine had a filter but it was thin bent and twisted by the tabs on the back of the door. Had to clip those off when putting in the thicker infinity unit from Autozone.

Mine was also filled with crap.

My nissan dealer and several auto parts stores tell me my 09 370z has no cabin filter? I followed the DYI and there is a filter box but no filter in there? I'm sure no one has removed it...I think? Is there a reason OEM in my car would not have one?

What I understand is they didn't include the cabin filter in the '09 so they would have something for an upgrade in the '10 models. Not sure if that is true or not. Read the rest of this thread if you would like to install one.

Because Nissan, for whatever reason (they haven't said why), decided not to install the filter at the factory.

My guess as to why (and it's only my guess) is that Nissan threw a bone to their dealers who would be able to put the filter in as an added-cost item when selling or servicing the car. My dealer had a sign up in the service area offering to install the filter (I've forgotten the price, but it wasn't cheap).

I prefer OEM Nissan parts.

The part # for the in-cabin filter is B7277-1EA0A.

This is what my filter looked like when I changed it today:
