in for updates

i have to say this mod is EXCELLENT for spring time... ive been having these allergies with itchy eyes and stuff in some areas where i drive on the weekends and as soon as i close the window and run the a/c no more discomfort!
it's a night/day difference. :) |
Thanks for the DIY. I used the Purolator C35479 today, paid about 20-25 bucks for it from Advanced Auto Parts. 15 minute DIY - only because I had to check the thread for the air flow direction :) Perfect fit, and hopefully it will stop the smells I was starting to detect from the AC.
|
If I understand this DIY correctly, the car has the slot for the cabin air filter but it does not come with it installed from the factory? Thanks for the clarification.

I think there's a few part numbers posted somewhere in this thread.

I just finished doing this and it worked out great. Reps all around. :tiphat:

Damn I should've searched the DIY a long time ago. I've been driving by this land fill for a few months and I was begining to think the filter needed to be replaced...but Nissan didn't even put one in the first place
|
Nissan is just NOW installing these cabin air filters standard as of the 2010 model line.

Based on what I read on Nissan North America's website, they should be installed on all 2010 models. It was a listed item on their sheet with 2010 model revisions.

i just installed an ATP carbon particulate filter from a 2004 avalon in my Z. totally took that nasty, rank a/c stink away. i had this problem ever since day one and its gone now.

This is great thank you

Did this DIY yesterday and used STP filter P/N CAF1792 and had to trim the filter because it was interfiring with the fresh/recirc air door. I noticed it because smells from the outside got in my car when it was in recirc mode. I recommend to check the operation of this door before reasembling the glove box.:ugh2:
|
if STP, i think you want to use CAF1766.

I asked at a few places for the Fram CF10157 since it's a charcoal filter, but everywhere I looked it had to be ordered since it was a newer filter. So instead I went with the Fram CF10140 which is for the G35. It fits way better than the stock one which was a bit skinnier. This one is the same length and width, and leaves no gaps around the sides. |

Oh i think im going to do this tomorrow morning =)

i did it yay

I just did this install- the directions are great. I recommend pulling the glove box door off to get to the lower screws.
I think the STP1766 filter is just about a perfect fit. As the DIY states, be sure the air flow arrow is down. You'll see when you slide it in that there are plastic rails in the back that "lift" it up off the bottom of the enclosure. The filter seems like it's meant to have those rails on the "door" lift it up in the front also. When you open the filter enclosure, just take off the door, slide the filter in, and close it making sure that the filter sits up on top of the rails. Happy filtering. :) Takes ten minutes. |
Just did mine - used the Purolator has electrostatic and charcoal layers in the pleats.
Pulling the door off (pull toward you and a little up when it is open) was a bit harder than I thought - possibly due to removing bottom screws already, a little easier to hold near hinges and pull toward you I think. I feel like fan force is reduced now, but I never have it on full blast so hard to really be sure. |
Just ordered my Fram CF10157 from Amazon.com and should have it tomorrow. Looks like it should be a nice upgrade in filtration and has the carbon impregnated in it. :) $18 shipped for a fancy filter via 1 day shipping sure does beat the $40 the dealer wanted for the OEM plain jane filter!
|
After seeing your post I just ordered the filter on Amazon.
Amazon.com: FRAM CF10157 Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter for select Lexus models: Automotive Can't beat $14.45 with free shipping with Amazon Prime. Rep sent to Caneman88 and G96818. |

Did mine today with the Purolator: C35479 from Advance Auto Parts for $13
Here are two more pics for the thread, you can see the ledge/ramp the filter sits up on to the left and right in the second image. http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1301369442 http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1301369460 |
I finally got around to installing mine. Thanks to everyone for posting up pics. It made the install real easy.

I just installed my Fram CF10157 on my 09 Z, it fits good and makes a huge difference from not having one!
|
Good write up
|
I was told that the 2010's + come with a filter. Is this true or bs. Thanks

Thanks guys for the great write up and pixs. I am not mechanically inclined but 30 mins later, I got it changed. My 2009 did not have a filter in it and now the cabin smells clean. I ended up using the STP brand as it was the only local one I could find.

Just installed the TYC 800091P cabin air filter in my '09 and the filter was a little too long that I had trouble closing the door.
The TYC 800091P is designed for the '09 G37 coupe |
FYI, I ran into a little problem when reassembling everything back together. I couldn't figure out screw #1 (from page 1 diagram) wouldn't screw in and tighten down. After taking it back off, the metal clip it screws into had fallen out. I had to mash it down with some needle nose plyers so it would stay in place.
|
i just put the FRAM filter in. it doesn't fit in properly so i ended up ripping off the foam on both sides and cutting up the filter for the slits in the cover and mushed the cover back on.
also i don't know if this happened to the rest of you guys but my glove compartment door now opens down slowly, whereas it used to just plop down. i honestly don't know what caused this but at least it opens down at a even slow pace. my filter was a year old and it had some dust and tiny leaves but wasn't too bad actually |
When I installed mine I used a Purolator and it fit perfectly.
