Battery Life
We still have the original battery in our 2011 370Z. Everything works fine but since it is primarily my wife's daily driver, and I don't want her to get stuck somewhere, I figured 9 years is enough. What kind of battery life have most of you seen?
Since most batteries on the market are made by Johnson Controls, I will buy a Maxx battery from Walmart. I have had good experience with them and they cost only about $100. Comments? |
My OEM battery lasted 9.5 years, but my Z isn't a daily driver and spends the majority of it's time in the garage hooked up to a battery tender.

As long as it is cranking well, there's no need to replace it. But, after nine years, I'd replace it at the first sign of slow cranking.

OEM battery still going strong on a 2010 with 60k miles. I just put it on the battery tender every time it cranks a little slower than usual and it goes back strong. I use the tender about 1-2 days a year, usually when it gets cold. The car is driven 1-5x a month.

My Genuine Nissan OEM battery lasted 3 years before I had to replace it in my 2017 370Z. Battery life is your luck of the draw and depends in what conditions your battery is used? OP you are fortunate you got that long of life out of your battery. That old of a battery I would have the battery tested and make sure it holds it’s charge and volts are correct. As said as long as you have no issues with starting your Z it should be good. It is good preventative maintenance to replace old batteries. The Genuine Nissan batteries are the longest lasting batteries I have seen I believe it. If you purchase a replacement battery for your Z get a battery with the best warranty and prorated.

Still on the OEM battery. The biggest deal is to keep them at the proper fluid level by adding distilled water. The underhood temps are so high it will evaporate the water/acid in the summer heat. Only add water to the level that is posted on the side of the battery. If you overfill, you will get water puking on your cables and corroding them. If the car sits for an extended period of time, use a battery tender.

I have a '16 and I think mine lasted 3 yrs. I guess I didn't do proper battery maintenance. I just put an Antigravity lithium on it. We'll see how long it lasts.

Also have a 2011. I've gone through 2 batteries. The best deal is Costco; they're around $80.

Just replaced mine on my 2011 Touring/Sport. 9 years and it was still cranking, just seemed kinda sluggish. However, it is noteworthy to say that my baby is a Garage Queen and sits with a Battery Tender on her till a nice sunny day whereby I have the time and opportunity to drive her comes along. The Dealer was amazed the battery lasted that long, but again, not a Daily Driver by any stretch, add the use of a Battery Tender and voila.. Long Life. I also periodically added distilled water to the correct level as needed... Oh and, cost at Dealer was $126, Labor Included to install...

I on my third battery in 8 years and probably do for another. If the vehicle sits for more than a couple of weeks it's weak.

The OEM battery on my 2017 Roadster gave me almost six years (40K miles) of trouble-free service. (I did periodically add distilled water to the cells, as needed.)
Notably, every time I've had the car serviced (at Nissan, Firestone, whatever) they have told me I needed a new battery..starting about year 2. Last week the car finally cranked slow, and I figured a battery this old doesn't owe me anything, so I replaced it. But the lesson here is, I think, don't trust the shops that try to sell you batteries! Wait until you see some evidence of a worn battery. |

On a side note regarding the Battery Tender, people tend to hook the car up to the tender after each drive, which IMO is worthless. Once the battery reaches full capacity, you have to let the battery discharge somewhat.
