Default oil change made easy?

I know there is a DIY oil change sticky but there are 50+ pages so I had a question...

I know there is the smaller access door where the plug and filter is so instead of taking the whole under plastic piece off for an oil change, could you find a fitting with 1 side the same thread as your oil pan and the other side would be a barb style for a hose to hook up to it and then have a small valve with the same size hose hook up...that way you could just access through the small panel grab the little hose point it at your oil catch and all would be good?

if so could you let me know the parts you used and where you got them to do this?

again is someone has posted this I apologize maybe you could provide a link...thanks

I have only changed my oil once so far so I am not super familiar with how practical any of this would be...not sure if you can still access the oil filter through this access door so maybe that is the reasoning for taking the whole plastic piece off?

Changing the oil is fairly easy. There are only 4 bolts you need to remove, then use a bungie cord to hold the access door open. Easy acces to the drain plug and filter.

My local auto parts store sells these for like $10. Called the EZ oil drain valve. 6046666_orig.jpg

Thanks guys...like I said I have only changed the oil in this car once a year ago and I thought I remembered the access door being fairly tight...seemed the oil might get all over the plastic cover...anyways I'm probably wrong but thanks again for the help

yeah... that under cover plastic flap can get in the way. after removing the 4 10mm bolts, you can simply fold it forward and use something to hold it in place. you can get to both the drain bolt and oil filter without getting oil on the under cover flap.

just be safe when jacking up the car.

Looks interesting.

Can you tell me which one we need for a 370Z? Also, are there any potential weaknesses with them (can they fail & spew oil everywhere?).

Not sure to be honest, just saw them in a display on the counter. But, for what it's worth, I've been dealing with the same parts store for 15 years, I know the guys well, and they don't carry junk.

I like removing the whole cover for additional inspection of other things & to clean out any trapped debris.

I have found that by far, the easiest method of oil change is to take it to the dealer, go next door to Perkins, then come back to pick it after a nice breakfast.

You should consider getting the ZSpeed undertray which has an access door built in for oil/filter changes.
