DIY - Limited Slip Differential Install

Yep, everything is updated. Be sure to think about whether you want to modify your existing halfshaft or take a chance buying a new one that's a little off.

Thanks so much for making this! I just finished my project referencing this and a few other sources. I found one mistake though.

The torque for the stubshaft that you think is too high is truly too high. It should be 59 ft lbs. It's in FSM page RAX-10

Default 2nd Oil Change

I did my second oil change on the LSD and figured I'd share... This is about 7k miles since the first change. About 8k total. The unit is still giving off some metal but I would expect this to slow way down now. Not too much on the magnet and then you can see what wiped off on a fresh paper towel. Think I'll go 15k to the next one.

Nice write up. But you are off on your torque specs. Alot of what you have is in Nm, not Ft lb. The manual reads Nm (Kg m, Ft lb).

Drive shaft - 74 Nm (7.5 Kg m, 55 Ft lb)
Side Flange - 79.4 Nm (8.1 Kg m, 59 Ft lb)
Fill plugs - 35 Nm (3.6 Kg m, 26 Ft Lb)
Front mount bolts - 100 Nm (7.5 Kg m, 74 Ft lb)
Rear cover stud - 110 Nm (11 Kg m, 81 Ft lb)
Bearing cap - 93 Nm (9.5 Kg m, 69 Ft lb)
Ring gear bolts - 78.5 Nm (8.0 Kg m, 58 Ft lb) plus 31 to 36 extra degrees.

Instructions for the ring gears bolts. From the manual.

Apply thread locking sealant into the thread holes of the Drive gear. Use Genuine High Strength thread locking sealant.

Apply anti-corrosion oil to the threads and seat of the mounting bolts.

Tighten in criss-cross fashion.

That 31 to 36 degree extra turn on the ring gear bolts is about 100 ft lbs. Some will take less, some will take more.

39,500 miles on the LSD and 4th oil change. Oil changes so far are at about 800, 7,800, 23,000 and now 39,500. Oil had the least amount of shavings so and still that pretty blue color (Motul). One wipe on the magnet and a small smudge on the rag. Always feels like your protecting your equipment when you change fluids.
