DIY: Cup Holder for large cups
10 Attachment(s)
This isn't much of a DIY but I had to come up with something because my wife was getting pretty tired of holding her cup all the time. I couldn't find any holders that would work due to the door panel being too wide at the top. I put together this second one because I didn't take any pics the first time.
Stuff you will need (photo 1) 1) 2 cup holders (4 pack from Walmart $3.00) 2) Large Heat Shrink Tubing (Duct Tape will work) 3) Loop side of Velcro) 4) Super Glue 5) Pop Rivet Tool & Rivets (super glue only will probably work) 6) 1/8" drill bit Cut the cup holders as in photo 2 Decide how wide you want it. (I made it 3") align it at that width & draw a line so it can be returned there when gluing it. (photo 3) Glue it. (use enough glue to get a good bond if not using rivets) (photo 4) Drill two 1/8" holes (if using 1/8" rivets) (photo 5) Install rivets (I used 1/8" x 1/4" countersink rivets) install rivets from the underside. (photo 6) I put small washers on the rivets to keep the rivets from pulling through the plastic. (photo 7) Place heat shrink over the rivets or use duct tape. (photo 8) Put the loop half of the Velcro on the underside where the holder will contact the door panel. (photo 9) All done. (photo 10) If you don't have a pop rivet tool super glue will make a strong bond. I attempted to pull it apart before riveting it & it held fine. Hope this might help someone, it sure made my wife happy. |
