Default Unofficial Poll: Harder - Front or Rear Suspension Work

Hiya,

Decided to take the front wheels off today and...

Got the SPL front arms and HKS front coils on and at this point I'm burnt. About 6 hours total with hand tools.

So here's the question: What's a more taxing install, the front (described above) or the rear camber arms and damper/spring install?

Front. Rear I can do in 45 min if I'm alone and only have basic hand tools

To install the rear, put the car on jack stands, put your jack under the spring bucket, compress the spring, undo all the bolts, let it down, slowly, then everything in reverse with the new stuff...

As with anything, having the right tools is key.

I lied about basic hand tools. My Milwaukee cordless impact makes these jobs facile. With hand tools takes a bit longer. Get a friend, buy him beer, it's easier with 2 people even if the other person is a drunk jack operator

Took me 3 hours to do back springs with camber arms and toe bolt, then about 2 to do front
If i had to do them again i could easily do in half the time.

And what DE said, get a friend to help even if he just sits there drinking beer

What did you guys do for the front arms? Just get the length between the bearing and the spindle close to the OEM arm or? Feeling like there's a bit more negative camber after the install. Gonna hold tight on the alignment until I can get the rear in.

As a start I just eyeballed it close to stock length. You're definitely going to need an alignment front and back (assuming you got arms for the rear). Hopefully you also got some lockouts for the rear if you got rear arms.

After that, set your ride height. Before you finalize, drive or roll the car back and forth so the springs seat properly and adjust ride height as necessary. Car must be rolled or driven each time to ensure proper spring seating. Then go get an alignment.

Awesome info. Yes set the front arms with 4 threads out at the bearing arm and 5 threads in at the adjustment points. About a 1/4" shorter than the oem arm.

And yes got arms for the rear and the eccentric kit. Would you be able to shed some light on the toe bolts install?

Will a dremel do the work to elongate the holes or is a shop gonna have to do it?

Thanks in advance

I'm out right now but a dremel works. I can't remember if the dremel will fit, I'm pretty sure I used that extension that's smaller and allows you to go into other spaces. You need to get a certain bit. If you do a search someone else posted the model number in another thread. Get a few of them cuz you're gonna need a few.

Hiya,

Going for the back today, and must agree that it's way easier to get to all the hardware...

I did notice that the spring bucket is a nice catch all for dirt and gravel
