Battery Replacement WTB

Whats a good replacement battery to replace the factory one? The battery is on its last leg. Wanted to get something different since all the other ones I've seen from Advance Auto, O'Reilly's, Autozone have a higher CCA. I will be replacing the battery in a few days. Any suggestions?

-Thanks

Optima N9935RED is a good replacement battery; about 150$ here...or look it up on summitracing.com/ they may have it cheaper.
(this is an AGM Battery) so should go at least 5 years-seen some go as long as 10.

Costco has sold the Optima batteries before. Check them out.

I don't think anymore

Personally I went with an Optima Yellow, Amazon has them at a good enough price and I went with a yellow top that's bigger than recommended, but still smaller than the OEM battery. So more CCA than the red top. Set me back like $200~

Get the Costco battery. Around 70 bucks and takes about 30 minutes to change.

Got an Energizer from Sam's Club...wanna say it was about $150. Had it for two years with no issues.

SouthArk370Z 12-04-2015 05:55 AM

As long as the battery will physically fit in the hole and has enough CCA, you will be OK. Nothing wrong with having more CCA than specs call for (but, as a rule-of-thumb, more CCA = more weight).

I literally just bought a brand spanking new Optima Yellow top for $158:eek::eek::eek: out the door PLUS free shipping on eBay about a week ago, I could NOT pass up the price it was the absolute lowest price I found online.

** I will say this, the optima yellow top, is approximately 30% smaller than the oem battery..

Most optimas are smaller. I'm glad I didn't buy mine through eBay because in case you need to warranty it, eBay doesn't work. The warranty process through Amazon/Optima wasn't as easy as going to Costco, but it wasn't that bad either

ahh yeah, I wasn't even thinking of that... I'll have to take my chances.

You should be ok, I've owned like 5-6 over the years, only 1 died prematurely. I've had more regular lead acid batteries die though

eastwest2300 12-05-2015 04:11 PM

Yeah, they make great batteries, and it looks sexy as fvck in the Z...

Hi,

When you say you got one that's bigger than recommended, which model # would that be?

Optima's site recommends the 8040-218 D35 YELLOWTOP for the Z.

Thanks

kenchan 12-30-2015 11:03 AM

no need for optimas for me. i tried them on my past hobby cars and imho, they are overrated, especially the yellow tops.

im just getting something cheap group35 i think it was, with cca 550 or better. it's not like nissan puts great batteries in their cars..they need to keep cost down.

90 ST 12-30-2015 11:17 AM

I would go with optima or a XS Power. The one thing to remember is places like Walmart and Costco get the refurbished optima, not the new ones. We've run into a lot of problems with that up in Canada.

Jsolo 12-30-2015 04:42 PM

Home depot sells Exide batteries at the store now. Not sure what group size the 370z takes but picked one (24fx) up for my G earlier this year for $100+tax. 40 month replacement warranty.

We'll see how easily it is to exchange the battery around month 36.

eastwest2300 12-30-2015 08:46 PM

I love my optima... :)

I'd stick with what's correct for the car. Looks like Amazon has a decent price on them.

I'm on Amazon and there's a note about checking hood clearance and possibly needing a mounting kit.
So does it fit??? Should I order that one? Anyone else have this battery/part number?

Thanks!

imjello 12-31-2015 09:22 AM

The costco near me only sold interstate batteries brand, $77, but the battery was physically larger then the OEM.

i took it to the dealership on Tuesday. They charged me $99 for the OEM battery. 24 mo replacement , 6 year prorate

LunaZ 12-31-2015 09:51 AM

I also got a Check Engine Light after starting the car on the dying battery. Hopefully that is related and will go away after replacing the battery?

Removing the battery to replace it will clear the CEL

Do you have a way to pull the code?

When I ordered my optima online, it came with packing material, it was hard cushion material, I cut a piece of that and sat the battery on top of that, then used the 2 oem hook thingies to lock it in place.. It worked like a charm.

Thanks for the PM.

Did you need to do anything special to make it fit?

jchammond 01-01-2016 11:13 PM

I could have used supplied spacer, that snaps on bottom of battery & raises it up about an inch; but liked the way it sit lower and flat in the tray.
I turned around hold down strap (notice arrow facing rear) and put the short J bolt in the lowest hole / then used a spacer (chrome 1/4 inch drive socket) over threads of longer front J bolt and put nut down against it. Holds good & weight of battery is about 1" lower.
Don't over tighten.
Width of battery is a tad narrower/ so when I get back to work, gonna make a rubberized spacer to go between top of battery & brace.....could leave as is; but gonna pay attention to detail.
720cca 160$ (including tax) works like a charm.

Btw.. Had to re-time my windows. :)
