Another great advantage is getting the car higher up when working in the engine bay. While I was installing the super charger kit, I kept it up on the first level so that my back wasn't getting bent over. It helped a bunch and allowed me to work on the top and bottom of the car. My 1977 Fiat Spider is a pain (literally) to work on because it sits so low to the ground. Lifting it up makes it far easier to work on. I feel perfectly safe with the car lifted and the engine running.
