Waxing before sealing paint?

So I have an appointment in two weeks to get my fresh paintjob sealed/glazed whatever you call it.

In the meantime I need to drive the car, and where I live there are a chit ton of elements on the road (sand and stuff mainly).

I want to have the paint as protected as possible for now so its in its best condition by the time these two weeks are up.


My intention was to 2 bucket wash, clay bar, and wax it once per week for the next two weeks. Is that a good preventative measure for now?

Please dont tell me to "leave it as is and wait for 2 weeks" because this bumper was stripped of all everything using alcohol the other day. It was going to be wrapped, but I decided to go a different route. There is aboslutely no protective layer of anyting on it so SOMETHING needs to go on it before i hit the road and expose it to elements.

I would give the paint at least 30 days to degas before i sealed it.

Have you checked with the person who painted your car to see how long you are supposed to wait before you put ANYTHING on it other than soap and water? Or, are you rolling in the dough and don't mind having to pay for another trip to the paint booth? :confused:

Fresh paint HAS TO CURE. Wax it, seal it it or put anything on it that isn't body shop safe and you WILL be getting it painted again.

You need to understand WHY your not suppose to expose the paint to possible solvents within a 30 day window. Google why and your welcome!

We just went through this in a very recent thread!

This paintjob has cured for 60 days, with a recommended window of 30 days by the gentleman in the bodyshop who did the work. I guess I should have mentioned this, I thought it was quite clear. The paint is done outgassing. Its not my first time on the internet, nor on this forum, nor my first time using google or search engines lol... Though thanks for the cpt. obvious jambalaya.

Now that that has been cleared, my question still stands.

A couple of questions. Where in the world are you storing the car where it needs to be clayed 60 days after it was painted? Did you test the paint to see if it in fact needs to be clayed? Do you know WHY you clay paint in the first place and how to check it to see if it needs claying?

Second, what crap of a wax do you plan to use that requires reapplication EVERY WEEK??? That would really be some crappy wax, unless you are storing the car in a oven and washing it with scalding hot water everyday. There are a TON of waxes out there that will more than last way past your appointment so whatever you are using, I would love to know what it is called.

Whatever you use is going to have to be stripped off the car anyway so the only thing you are doing is making work for whoever is going to work on your paint. Get a tiny can of something cheap, wax it once and let your detail guy do the rest and do it right.

So your having a body shop Just apply a sealant or Glaze? What products are they applying?

I don't understand why you just don't apply a good quality wax and call it a day!

Do you plan on polishing the paint if your going to clay it?
