Before you accept delivery of your new car check the paint - 2015 Subaru STI

A very good customer of ours picked up his new Subaru STI, at delivery he already noticed that it was in pretty bad shape, but he knew he was coming in for a new car prep and Opti Coat so all was well.

That being said I'm still surprised at how dealers just don't understand how to deliver a car. Why not train your crew to do it right?

Using the Uber Wool Wash Mitt for the tops and the Uber Yellow Wash Sponge for the bottom of the car. We do this to prevent dirt getting into the mitts and potentially scratching the paint.

Surprising how dull the paint was on a brand new car.

Customer requested to debadge, since the car was new it was quite easy to remove. We used dental floss and remove the emblems. We removed the leftover adhesive with Auto Finesse Obiltarate. Ghosting was remove with the Rupes LHR12 and Sonax Perfect Finish.

OMG, I picked up my new 2011 Black Cherry Z from the local dealer 3 years ago it was AMAZING how marred and swirled the paint was. It was responsible for my introduction to Adams and Porter-Cable. OTOH, my wife's Murano in the metalflake black and my most recent Z, both of which vehicles were bought and prepped more recently from a different dealer, were amazingly well done. Even using my best Junkman evaluation techniques, I was unable to find any significant paint swirls or defects. I really appreciated that.

Sponge for washing the bottom half of the car? I thought that sponges are a big no-no for washing as they do not carry away the dirt, but rather trap it between the sponge and the paint, which creates scratches?

RyanWest 05-07-2014 01:02 AM

Id never use a sponge unless your only wiping in one direction then cleaning after each wipe.

sponges are great and disposable when used right.

Super job, nice work. Damn that new subie was trashed. The black speckled finish looks awesome once polished.

Sexy after you fixed it :) Sometimes you can ask them to not remove the wrapping or anything when it arrives. Tell them to not touch it after taking it off the truck and you're better off with that.
