Default Carbon Fiber Care

So I know how to take care of paint but no idea how to take care of aftermarket CF parts like skirts, lips, and hoods. Do they have clearcoat? Can you polish them the same way? Are other products indicated for such materials??
Detailing never ends..
Wonder if junkman has 2 cents on this.

I've always recleared CF pieces, and then just treated them like any other clearcoated part of the car. Most of that stuff has a gelcoat on it, but unless you have some clear sprayed on it you run the risk of yellowing.

Does the gelcoat need to be removed prior to the clear being applied? then just treat it like a painted surface? How long does it take before you would notice "yellowing" even if the car is a garage queen?

Depends where you get it from. Ive found the gelcoat on Siebon stuff to be pretty damn good, just keep it waxed or sealed and youll be fine. Cheaper stuff like EVO-R needs to be recleared or it will eventually yellow even if you wax or seal it.

It all depends on who it is from. AeroJacket has a clear coat and Evo-R claims to have it as well. Seibon is hit or miss. I wax and seal frequently since a lot of my car is CF. Sun has a lot to do with it as well.

There is a carbon fiber glaze from Dr. Beasley's or something like that. I am going to get a bottle and see how it is.

I normally use all Griot's products and treat the clear coat/gel coat the same as normal paint.

Bad call. Getting something cleared is cheap. If it turns yellow it's forever.

That's not bad. Every body shop is going to be different, but it shouldn't be a lot of money. And it beats having it turn yellow on you because you cheaped out at the end.

haha...i understand the "cheapenin' out" concept but then the other dealer recommended installer, besides the painter, wants $250/275 to install the wing with me already having the oem spoiler...things add up...inquiring minds need to know...thx, bro'...

Clear coat is not a problem. You can get 3M paint defender for 25 bucks at Walmart , whatever
Sun UV is a BIG BIG problem as Seibon ( although a very reputive seller ,reviewed by many), carbon creation (mine hood) does not provide UV clear coat (if they havei doubt they have to proudly advertise it).

The only solution now(as i know) is turtle wax + merguras that strongly advertise they provide UV protectant on their product.

keep me informed. Now i still hide my Z on a storage until i can find a good UV solution

IMO, assume the CF does not have a strong enough clear from the factory to prevent UV damage to the weave.

Spraying a clear over it is a great way to protect the piece, but (again, in my opinion) every surface CF piece needs to have UV protection from a quality uva//uvb sealant at the very least.

If it turns yellow...can you just paint over it? If it yellows I would prefer painting it than have it like that
